Among last weekends auction finds were a number of cover. Included were these four postal cards. Though common, the name of the recipient struck me as familiar, so a quick Google search turned up why. Henry Langley was a famous architect in Toronto in the late 19th and early 20th century, famous around these parts for his churches and government buildings. Check the wiki page with his bio and some images of his masterpieces. McMaster Hall (3rd from the bottom) has always been one of my favourites in this city, a monolith of stone and brick. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Langley_(architect)The cards Canada UX2 1876. Postmarked in Staynor ON Nov 9, 1880 Canada UX5c lilac 1882. Postmarked Toronto ON Mar 19, 1885 Canada UX5d grey 1882. Postmarked Toronto ON Dec 20, 1884 United States UX9 1886. Postmarked Chicago Feb25 1888. I know this US card doesn't fit in the Canadian content of this section, but the Langley connection is unavoidable. All cards have a round receiver cancel.

Nice collection of cards. Is the subject matter related to his work or of a more personal nature? I can't resist reading any old letters or cards I acquire. I find the little glimpses into the past fascinating.

Hello Gents (and everyone else) The cards are all business related. The US piece is from a real estate agent named Bowes & Cruickshank in Chicago and relates to selling two lots that Langley owned on Adams St in that city. The Canadian cards are all written in script and somewhat difficult to decipher, but they speak of plans received, house inspections and, well, the third, I just don't know.
