I loved the Speedo's when they came out, I thought I was the coolest dude. You have to remember, our family was British, and my father had wool swimmers, when soggy wet, that was NOT a good look.

It has taken me a wee while to find this thread. I am reminded by the cover posted here by Joan cursus , of an old prophecy from the 17th century by the Brahan Seer , Coinneach Odar, Scotlands own Nostradamus , when men shall ride horseless carriages under the sea to France ,then Scotia will rise anew free from all oppressionThe opening of the Scottish Parliament not long after the Euro Tunnel carried trains to the continent is seen as fulfilling his 300 years old prophesy. (He was burned in boiling tar for witchcraft by the way)

Like the original postings in this thread Nos # 1,2,5 and 7, all seem to emanate from the Scottish Philatelic secretariat, a private Nationalist inspired group agitating for stamps to recognise Scottish personages and events in the 1960s when Royal Mail had more stringent rules about what could or could not appear on a stamp. eg by the then current rules Robert Burns could not be commemorated in 1959 for his 200th anniversary ..... (a pair of commem stamps did appear in 1966 for his 207th anniversary along with one for the Declaration of Arbroath in 1970) #3 was a label produced in the 1970s for Shetland when there was a local movement for autonomy similar to what had recently been granted to the Faeroes by Denmark. The flag shows the off centre Scandinavian style cross of St Olav (as seen in Denmark Norway Iceland Finland The Faroes and Sweden. #4 is one of 3 childrens designs from a competition concurrent with the Philatelic Congress and National Philatelic Exhibition Glasgow 2000. #6 despite its appearance is not actually Scottish. The Caledonian Schools Bushey HERTFORDSHIRE date from the orphans of the Napoleonic war,I guess a fund-raising effort guyana1230 I have just found the complete mini sheet from the Millennium Exhibition incorporating your image #4
