As mentioned in another thread, a treat for myself. A pristine 1926 MNH Admiral overprint. In that year the War Tax was temporarily suspended. Until lower value stamps could be printed the 3¢ admiral was surcharged in two different overprints. The #139 has 2 cents on one line. Looking for used copies for my pending exhibit, but they are harder to find, and much dearer. I'll suffer with this.

Great stamp James! Both of the overprints can be a bit hard to find. Most of the overprinted admirals that were originally produced were destroyed because they didn't meet the quality standards of the Post Office Dept. More here: Canadian Postal Archive

Well, I'm red in the face, almost as bad as his Majesty here. I remember a while ago, commenting to someone on SCF who had found some treasure in their collection they didn't know they had, 'How could you not know what's in your collection?', or words to that effect. Whoever that was, I apologize. I was sorting through stuff, getting material together to take with me on a trip to Vancouver, so I can work on this War Tax exhibit I've been going on about for the last several months, and what did I find? A used #140! Just goes to show ya! You never do know. Well now I have one used and one mint. On to find those elusive #139s

James couple quick questions as your into this issue.Have you delved into # 139 dies? I have found a die II used no value listed in THE book.(again)..off subject here.. Do you or any other members have information on re-touches to the plates on MR1 and MR2 ?? I believe I see some differences in a few but have no guide if anyone has published anything.I have been re-re-mounting volume one and hope this time I spread them out enough to allow for expansion. It seems that if you want to specialize it is not uncommon to have one page per stamp if that's something you can put your head around.I still haven't touched small queens for some reason I seem to skip past them again.Talk about one to the page I can see they will /probably occupy one to multiple pages when I finally get a handle on them.

good morning FF (and everyone else) I've not delved into the plate differences of this issue. My own copy is the common Die I. On page 550 of George Marler's book The Admiral Issue of Canada' he writes,
' The author can testify to the existence of plate blocks from Plates 115, 116 and 117 with the overprint, and it seems to be a fact that the great majority of the sheets that were overprinted originated from these plates. Boggs states that sheets from Plate 162 and 163 (Die II) also were overprinted, but the number placed on sale must have been small for individual stamps from Die II with the overprint are rare. Dr. Robert Chaplin is the possessor of a first day cover franked with a plate block of six from Plate 163 - a very rare item.'
I can only think that no used prices were given in THE book is because they are so rare, there's no point.
You write, 'I have found a die II used no value listed in THE book.' Do I take that to mean you have actually found a used Die II stamp, or that you found, in the book, that no value was listed? I'm unclear.
I'll address the Dies of the war tax later today. I've convinced the wife to attend an estate auction, and it would not bode well if I kept her waiting.
And as to the small Queens, I agree with you about those. I too have to re mount my Queens. Never satisfied.

Wow, if you've got a used Die II, I'd suggest you contact Unitrade and let them know. They might be interested. As for re entries, I don't know much at all. The Billig's Specialized Catalogue on Canada's War Tax Stamps does mention them for the various dies. You can pick up a copy on ebay, I'm sure. A pretty handy little booklet.
