classicalstamps originally placed his post in the Ecuador: Stamps thread. I thought topic and reference to his site to be sufficiently important that I took the liberty of moving his post to a thread of its own.

classicalstampsHi, I was wondering if you wanted images of genuine 1865 stamps, to sit alongside your forgeries, if so, I'll scan my copies for you.

Hi, I was wondering if you wanted images of genuine 1865 stamps, to sit alongside your forgeries, if so, I'll scan my copies for you. I am very interested in your kind offer Please scan in 600dpi "high quality" (i.e. low compression) JPEG. I look forward to improving the Ecuador page with your additions Thanks again.

Sc #11 1872 Thin white paper, pale, almost transparent gum. Fear not, to call me out, if my "genuines" are forgeries...... Sc #9 1872 Perf 11 Gum unknown - parchment still adhered to reverse, and I am not game to soak this stamp. I know little to nothing about these stamps, printing etc. There are 2 types "stop after medio" and "no stop after medio" (The more valuable) The 1r and 1p are also found with a large irregular perforation, guaging from 6 to 11. These are false and unofficial perfs (Gibbons)

Your stamps have all the 'markings' of the genuine: Medio Real:- 87 lines in oval - 13 horizontal lines at the bottom Un Real:- 83 lines in oval - 13 horizontal lines at the bottom - Square 'U' of 'UN' I have updated my site. Thanks again

Placing Sc#2 up for scrutiny. 1865 If genuine, I make these Gibbons SG#3 (deep ultramarine) 12th October 1868 Wove paper Die engraved Emilia Rivadeneira Typography M Rivadeneira Quito. Imperf Exist Vert Laid Paper Quadrille paper (Gibbons) Batonne Paper (Scott) When I first laid eyes on this one, I thought I had snagged a "blued Paper" (1872) $100 but as you see, it looks like a genuine Sc#2 that has been fraudulently repaired amateurishly after being ripped, and the finish being scribbled over by blue wax crayon I am not au-fait with the postmark, and wonder if Steve or others can lift the Postmark for me? off the stamp image. A clearer example of what appears to me to be genuine. Sc#2 If genuine, easy picks for ID would be the short front leg in the "A" of Ecuador and the twins "RR" shape of Correos (Thin damage at 3 o'clock) Batonne Paper wiki

... I am not au-fait with the postmark, and wonder if Steve or others can lift the Postmark for me? off the stamp image. ... I'm a few years too late, seeing as how Rod has left us, but I noticed the request while replacing blurred images and thought it a worthwhile undertaking. Here is the clearest rendering after processing in retroReveal.

Re postmark When I first arrived in Ecuador,I started to collect incendios....stamps from 1899 Presidential series which were overprinted after a fire in Guayaquil.I have a few stamps with this overprint and have been told that this overprint is a forgery. It can also be found on 1907 escolares overprints. I don,t know for certain if this is true.Quite possible, though,as there is an abundance of forgeries and fake overprints on early issues. Anglobob

Hi anglobob
Banco Central in Quito published a book in the 80's about the early issues. Try to find a copy. I knew 2 dealers in Quito but they are long gone.
The major worry are the Seebecks.
