One of the largest fairs to take place in the USA [2nd largest] attracted almost 45,000,000 visitors from 33 different countries. Venue: Flushing Meadow/Corona Park. Date; April 1939- October 1940 Organized by New York businessmen. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1939_New_York_World's_Fair Many Promotional labels were issued as well as others at the show and by Individual Exhibitors. They most likely number in the thousands. Please add your labels here. Here are some Gold and Silver foil items to start us off. I'll find a bunch more later. These types come in all shapes and sizes, shown below are just a few. Londonbus1.......goin' to the Fair !

Here are a few more, including a closer view of one that Rod showed earlier. The 54 'Licensed Poster Stamps' series is one of sheer beauty and elegance. The Cigar label [below] was most likely produced for use on specially-made Cigars for the fair, but I could find no details [as yet] ...and here's one advertising the Exhibit of USS, United States Steel. Londonbus1.....there's more !

Not strictly speaking a World's Fair item but one which has a very beautiful connection. A large, informative and very good-looking Poster Stamp produced by Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania enticing everyone to visit lovely Wyoming before or after their visit to the Fair. I am sure they succeeded !! If anyone knows who designed or printed this, please add the info below. It is very beautiful tp my eye. Londonbus1

I've never been fortunate enough to attend a world's fair. Has anyone been to one?

Ok, I don't like to brag (...yes you do, roared the crowd!) but last weekend's auction bonanza also yielded a complete set of the NY Worlds Fairs stamps shown previously, yet briefly by Rod and Michael. So here they are. Unfortunately firmly fastened to these sheets from the previous owners album. Do I soak them off? Leave them in situ to honour the effort made? What to do? What to do?

I went to the 1964 World's Fair in New York. Being 5 years old, I don't remember much except the giant globe and the Royal tire Ferris wheel.

Let's revisit this one. Here's a cover I picked up today at Unipex. 1892 Columbian postal stationary with 1939 Worlds Fair stamp and RPO cancel. Plus a Florida cinderella, from a set I showed elsewhere in the cindy section.

Londonbus1 has already introduced us to Elmer but since I was in the thread replacing a blocked Photobucket image I thought I'd show my recently acquired copy.

I was updating my images on this page earlier this evening, when I remembered THIS label in my collection. This is the cinderella that started it all for me several years ago. Taught me what a cinderella was (thanks to the Bus, rod and several others!) and got me started on my downward label spiral! Thanks again guys!

Great stamp, James ( jamesw), thanks for sharing! And in the serendipity department, I just arrived in Denmark right before seeing your post. What were the odds?

I found this recently for my 'Flags on Cinderellas' collection. Not quite sure what the 'guest' part is all about yet, it could one of a number of things. It is very large, as big as a Souvenir Sheet, fully gummed. Londonbus1

Here are a couple more pages of NYWF labels. Some are repeats of previously posted labels, but it was just easier to scan the pages.

These are tourist labels trying to entice visitors to the World's Fair to stay in Nassau County on Long Island. The fairgrounds, now Corona Park in Queens, were actually much closer to Nassau County than to Manhattan. Being only 6 miles away, it would have made sense to stay in a Nassau County hotel than one in Manhattan.

A partial page of sepia "real photo" labels for the NYWF. These were sometimes used as cachets on fair-related covers.
