Ok, tested 32 lb. (47 GSM) Cotton paper and 65. lb (96 GSM) Staples coverstock. The toner stuck to both types of paper perfectly and will not smudge off when I rub it with my finger. The manual feed slot needed a little coaxing to feed the thicker paper through, but it went through. The coverstock did curl somewhat: I'm sure if I pressed it flat between two books right after it came out, it would be fine. I also selected "Thicker Paper" instead of just "Thick Paper." I'll need to test the "Thick Paper" setting and see if that's better. I'm going to assume the thicker the setting, the hotter the fuser gets.

The easy way is to track number copy/prints with the counter. Where might one find a counter on a Laser, Kim?

Where might one find a counter on a Laser, Kim? Good question. I used to believe customer service when they told me there was no counter. If it has an digital screen, then not true. It's just not user-friendly to access. The counters on the laser printers can be annoyingly difficult to find, and the buttons/sequence to push is almost never given in the provided manuals. It varies considerably among models, even of the same brand. As Andy showed, on some printers, it can be printed out or viewed through the System Info page I guess I should be grateful -- at least now you don't have to manually crack open the machine and dig around to find those mechanical counters like on those old copiers. I can only tell you the best way to find out is to Google your printer brand, model, and "page count" or "print count". Usually some techie has it answered online somewhere. With the persistent searching, I've been able to find the fix for all my copiers/printers (non-inkjet). Be prepared for some obscure sequence of buttons to push and tummies to rub. I've also learned that googling is the best way to reset annoying error codes that customer service tells you can only be serviced by their certified technicians. It's saved me from junking a copier more than once. These things are so cheap now, they usually aren't cost effective to get professionally repaired, and if a google fix to reset an error code can give you another few thousand copies... My experience is that the Canon equipment usually has the easiest to find online techie fixes. Our equipment is primarily Canon and Brother. Sorry I couldn't provide a single fix answer.

Thanks Andy! My HL2132 budget printer has a mute counter, internal counter that assesses Drum Pages (Max around 12,000 pages) before an "Drum" warning becomes lit. Then I assume time for a new Printer.
Thanks Kim, I downloaded my Printer manual, did a CTRL F, and searched every instance of "counter" That's how I found on the more budget models (circa $50) you are kinda locked into the drum pages set around 12,000
My budget Brother Manual, gave extensive adressing of paper types, the fail assumptions on "page Curl" (Andy!) Worth a good read if one is using variable paper types (causes of jamming)

Since I don't have a lot of posts here on TSF, I don't want to take this thread off topic too much. rod222, you won't find it in the manual. I'll PM you a few counter access/fixes intended for the HL-2xxx series (I have one, not exact same model number as yours, but it's mothballed in storage right now so I can't verify the fixes).

There are some smart Cookies around here.................. Thanks Kim, My Brother HL2132 ($39) indeed has a page count (Hit power button 3 times rapidly) I have printed >8,000 Album Pages (with 8 Jams) they occurred when I accidentally select "print all" instead of a single page, and I quickly pull out the page drawer, sometimes I get a jam. You are a good man khj Based on 3 toner replacements at $18 and 8,000 pages , I am currently paying 0.6 cents per page ....Oops 4 toner replacements = 1c per page

Glad I could help. It's amazing how much information gets logged now. I'm always worried about what else my office equipment is logging. One day I'm going to find out the LCD actually has a hidden camera...
Also, remember I'm the one who couldn't use his scanner for several years because the person who borrowed it lost that annoying "specialty" power cord.

On the Brother printers there is a way to reset the toner count. I saw it on some web page. There was a big thread that the printer can't actually tell the toner level in the cartridges. So, it does it by page count. So, if you print 7,000 pages with one small black dot it the middle, it will tell you that you are out of toner. The site recommended resetting the toner till it stopped printing a certain color. If I find the page, I'll post a link.

Glad your new Brother printer seems to be working well for you!
Keep in mind the MANUAL count reset method is often printer model specific, even within the Brother printers. On some Canon & Brother printers, the manual reset is hidden in the function menus. On others, you have to punch a bizarre sequence of buttons. I assume there is probably a few models that will let you reset via software as well.
When googling, make sure you type in the model number (the letters at the END don't matter). It will save you a lot of failed attempts.
Also, I don't recommend using any toner cartridge until it stops printing a certain color. I'm guessing that site didn't mean until it fully stopped printing a certain color. But just in case... it is NOT worth the future drum/fuser problems. When the color gets uneven or spotty, you can shake/rotate the toner cartridge to get more copies. Once that method stops working and you continually get drop outs in either color or black, definitely time to get a replacement cartridge. Again, NOT worth the damage to the printer to run the cartridge until it hardly prints. Just my opinion.

It's from a comment on Amazon, of all places: www.amazon.com/review/R1AHG9404DA2B4/ref=cm_cr_dp_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00BQU141C&nodeID=1064954&store=office-products#wasThisHelpful

I think I've come to the conclusion that I'm just going to use 32 lb cotton paper and sheet protectors. Just need to find a cheaper source of cotton paper.
