Hi Andy
I do not use Scott mounts so wasn't aware that they do no get wavy. I have noticed, however, that Showgard mounts are heavier than other mounts of the same type, Scott, Prinz, etc.. Maybe the thickness causes Showgard to become wavy. I also noticed that the face film is different. Scott mounts seem "matte" and Showgard "glossy". The thickness of Showgard is what I like and the reason I do not use Scott mounts.

I never thought of scanning a page! Interesting idea! That would be especially useful for items going into the safety deposit box.

I definitely notice a difference between old and new Showgard mounts. Some thing has definitely changed for the better over time. I'm one of the lucky guys that has a stamp and coin store about 2 minutes from my house and the gentleman that owns the store sells individual Showgard mount strips. Of course his individual mounts are very old, because most of his business is in coins, sports cards and collectible card games like Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh. The individual mounts are way glossier than the ones I get from a new modern pack. The black backing is also more translucent that a new Showgard mount. And, of course, he has a bunch of wavy ones. When I do buy a wavy one, it's usually for a souvenir sheet from Ukraine that is some size I doubt they will ever use again. I don't feel like buying a whole pack of mounts for one lousy sheet. I mount the stamp by applying glue from a glue stick along the top and bottom edges of the mount and press it flat against the page. I'll usually lay a book on it for a new minutes. This can usually make a "wavy" mount flat if you're using thick enough paper to mount your stamps onto.

I only use clear Hawid type mounts for the stamps that I mount. Most of my stamps are hinged, and I only mount the MNH or higher CV stamps. These mounts are nice because they blend in well with hinged stamps, can be trimmed to fit the stamp (i.e., really only need to buy one size), and because they are clear, it allows you to see the box/boarder around the stamp. So far, I have never had a stamp get away from me.

Hi ChrisW
Showgard clear mounts would be the same. I tried Hawid mounts and for larger items, the items kept falling out.
I assume you cut the top of the Hawid to fit the stamp height. I was told that the top foil of the Hawid had a slight curve downward at the top to hold then stamp in. If so, cutting the top removes the curl.

Jerry B Yes, I usually cut the top of the mount to fit the stamp height. Never noticed the slight curve of the top foil, but that's interesting. I mostly only collect classic era stamp and there are not many "large" stamps in that bunch...maybe why I hadn't had any trouble with them slipping out.
