I always say Google is our friend! Leafing through the stock book this morning, this Romanian perfin caught my eye. It reads Adeverul. Google translate came back with 'True'. Googling the word itself revealed a daily Bucharest based newspaper established in 1871, and re-established four times. Still going strong with the respelled name Adevarul. Makes a pretty common 1893 King Carol more interesting, I think.
I've flipped the back of the stamp around so it's readable. Just part of the service.

Nice clean punctures, as you would expect, Perfins in Romania began January 1st 1892 Yours is Catalogue # Eros 12 Rated as Common (over 100 sighted) How do you know your stamp is 1893? Looks like 1900 to me, Wmk 167?

Rod I thought you had me there. I'm certainly not an expert on Romania, and I was just going by the image and listing in Scotts. I didn't delve to far, and once you mentioned it, I thought maybe the colour was closer to a red brown (SC#135/149) than a chocolate (#119). But a dip in the watermark tray shows a Watermark #164 (PR) which I think does make it a #119 from 1893.

Good work, I have to default to Gibbons in the interim, Scott is not reliable for depth in Romania. There are very few experts in Romania I am certainly not one of them. When you say that this issue is common, you should know the half of it, On a short list, there exists 58 varieties of this stamp alone, that's why I have to work on Romania in time chunks, otherwise it becomes overwhelming and one cannot create "duplicates" without inspecting every stamp. With your watermark #164 I presume that is the unserrifed "PR" The good news is that "Red Brown" exists for 1893 (Stanley Gibbons #344 [1965]) For the basic specialist there only remains Perforation (3 basic types) and paper Thickness (3 types) ....But Scott 119 shall do me . Thanks again The die is 19.5mm x 24mm so that makes your stamp Perf 13.5 x 13.5

As I was working on Romania I came across several perfins and have tentatively identified them as follows: From left to right: D.R. is possibly Dacia Romania (Assurances) J & C is possibly Jeschek & Co. or Wyess-Iselin & Co., it is also possible this perfin is J & Co. and the perfin is not complete on this stamp M.K. is possibly M Kohn Craiova I used the following websites for perfin identification: Philatelia and Romania Stamps

Another interesting perfin with a complicated cursive pattern is this one: I had to go through almost all the pages of perfins on the Romania Stamps website to identify it but finally found it among those that start with the letter S... Romania StampsIt is the perfin for SARC or S.A.R. de Comert Bucharest which is perfin no. 12 on the page link.

Yes, "Adeverul" perfin does not mean "true". It means "the truth". "Adevărul (Romanian pronunciation: [adeˈvərul]; meaning "The Truth", formerly spelled Adevĕrul) is a Romanian daily newspaper, based in Bucharest.", as in the wiki page mentioned above.
Probably nobody, even in Romania, knows "all there is to know" about the complex history of postage stamps of Romania. Anyway, I am a native speaker of Romanian, so at least I can help with vocabulary questions. Plus I know some expert philatelists, with niche areas of expertise about Romania.

A cracking set! Nice one. I'll add one more bank. I bought these a while back, from the Netherlands I paid about 60c each, landed. (I think I have them all identified)
