Jeff I have many early Canada in the same vein.I hang on to 'em just because. An advanced collector would laugh at some of my stuff but as in this case the possibility is there. An expert would no doubt rule a No but probably just based on close margins.I have a couple that when overlayed on a perf example are quite obviously much larger so I save 'em.As always it's your collection do it your way.You know I would just hang on to it but I'm just a collector with no letters after my name.Nice stamp none the less.

Jeff, I'm sure you already know this, but the sc315 is one of most reported problem stamps on stamp smarterTheron

Theron, I am all too aware. That's why I toiled for days on weather to post this or not? I think I'll just leave well enough alone and mark it as such (probably trimmed)in my notes. Thank you for your replies.

I know they would have a good chortle over my collection then but I could care less. I do it for fun and not profit. I love to learn and covers and stamps are a hotbed of information to tease out! Thank you!

Some of the more serious musicians have questioned my choices of stage guitars as well.I use my Studio not the custom,my modified mex Strat not the '69,and my stand by Ovation Cele.If they knew small club crowds they would understand the risk of bringing the more expensive stuff out.My stack took a drunk stumble few years ago thankfully musicman is durable stuff and easy fix.Stamps are the same in many respects I hang on to them as well, even if others give me the eye look.

It's truly not the guitar but the musician involved that plays it. I agree wholeheartedly! I love my guitars but I really have no expensive ones anymore. I have a WOODS flat-top and a Yamaha that I picked up for almost a song! It just played so nice I just couldn't leave it and I was playing Martins and other "high end" guitars that day as prospects too and found that the Yamaha just had what I needed and it just fit. I put a bone nut & saddle on it and the bass came flooding out of it as I suspected it would. Now I'm not saying anything bad about any guitars anywhere but I find that more expensive don't necessarily mean better. But I'm a sucker for a beautiful butterscotch toned telecaster...lol Now, collecting and loving beautiful guitars is a whole 'nother ballgame.

Jeff I have a les paul special 2004 I think.A nice looking natural finish and typical Gibson player. It really needs a new home I was thinking maybe you could put it to use?? Not sure at the moment how to ship it but if your interested it's yours.Might have to wait til my budget is fixed couple weeks tops.Just say the word I'll send her along.I picked it up to bail a friend out of crisis and don't really use it.

Better chance winning the lottery. Last I checked there were only six known certified used copies of #315 and probably a thousand or so trimmed copies being offered for sale. You'll need 4 good margins, at least one of the sides on yours is a natural straight edge from the edge of the sheet. 1st stamp in bottom right pane? These are the ones that are most commonly trimmed. A friend of mine came up with a theory concerning the eyes as a way to identify the stamp. As I remember Bill Weiss was not convinced of the theory. Frog, How ya been? Speaking of Les Pauls, hardly a day goes buy that I don't kick myself for letting one slip through my fingers. Seems ridiculous but it is one of my biggest regrets. In 1964 my guitar teacher had a 1955 Black, Gold plated, Les Paul fretless wonder for sale. I tried to come up with the measley $150.00 he was asking but it was just to much for a 14 year old kid in those days. Today as you probably know they are worth upwards of a 100k, last I heard. Even if I had got it who knows how long I could have held on to it or what shape it would end up being in but still can't help crying about it. It sure would have been nice playing it as well...................

Mitch! Hey how you been? Yeah I know all too well that the margins alone disqualify it from any serious looks. I just thought maybe I was missing something was all? I actually referred to your post on this but it seemed we both have the same basic issues on this one. -Cheers
First frog did understand you correctly?...YES! I would cherish it! You may have to gimme a little bit of time on that postage thing however? I'll PM you.

See here: www.jamesdire.net/tinyeye1.JPGI just went to look at mine and wouldn't you know it...that eye is "conveniently" post marked over-top! Either your friend is on to something or this was a coincidence? Still probably a trimmed regular issued Scott #304. I just wanted to put this in front of more sets-of-eyes to be certain I wasn't overlooking something? I'm not too dissapointed. Say you did actually find one, what would you do with it? Keep it or sell it at auction?

Well quite obviously I don't sell much so my answer would be keep it.On the other hand if asked keep it or give it to a friend well only time would tell. For the record I donated one of my early guitars('68 Mustang) to be auctioned for a gentleman needing a liver transplant.I'm finding it easier to part with some, someone should play them.Currently most just sit in the closet or occupy the corner of my music room. How many can one person play??My wife is always asking that I just give her THE look.

There's been times I ended up with four strings playing heavy.Mony Mony comes to mind we did an extreme version with really heavy accents on hard first three chords I always keep extra "live" guitar handy.Just have to slip into the strap and turn up volume knob.Three ?? I'd be out of strings and playing air guitar.

Or of you don't have a guitar just pick up 2 hubcaps from a car and an old broom handle and you sound just like this fella. Or just grab a piece of 2x4 an old strand of wire, egg flipper and a old can of Jolly Green Giant and make yourself a Diddly Bo .Great sound, cost? your time routing in the thrash

Seasick Steve? Never heard of that feller before? Interesting though! He was just a street/busker musician, a American that moved over to Europe a while back. He spent his youth as a runaway and lived as a hobo. Jules Holland gave him his first spot on British TV, after that his popularity scored and fills out the big rock festivals. He made it in his 70's. Here is a clip of him playing or should I say busking on the street prior to a gig in the States where nobody knew him, a British tourist took the video, its him telling his story. Sorry for the off topic route, But sometimes its always good to know what ever your going through times will get better Maybe in 20 years someone will be posting videos of ILS playing the frog guitar

Seems it has been several months since I posted anything here?!? I did get a nice birthday email - remember wondering how Rod knew it was my birthday?!? But thanks for thinking of me!!
Of all the threads, not much to comment on. This one is of most interest, but doesn't seem to be any outstanding question as of now. Can't say too much about the guitars (!?) so just a confirming comment that the Lincoln stamp can't be even considered to be a 315 because of that right side edge. But I will also say that I have doubts about the Franklin & Washington stamps as well - both look suspicious to me as well. Those stamps are around alot, and generally have very straight & even margins. The 2 posted above appear to obviously have been cut/trimmed...
More impressive from the picture - what appears to be a very nicely centered set of used pan-am stamps - nice!

Correct
Maybe so, but I know 1 is legit only because I knew where it came from (lifted from a cover)
I think I agree. Only because they are cut to close to be considered genuine even if they are/were genuine.
