Haven't updated this topic for a while (despite doing weekly articles & updates with the blog), but now I've got something a bit more special to share than 'just knowledge/articles'. SCB is celebrating the Finnish independence centenary with sweepstake where you can win a copy of Finnish stamp catalog (concise edition) & some stamp mixtures. Sweepstake is open for all reader levels of SCB, so no buying is required to enter. More details & participation details can be found at SCB website www.stampcollectingblog.com. Here's a pic of the main prize (about 400 pages). -k-

I have to agree with jkjblue, How does anyone keep up with collecting the world? I have a hard enough time with my Ohio OSTS, Ohio Revenues, Georgia Revenues, US Revenues, US Postage, and FDC's. I have way more stuff that I actually have, but don't collect, but just haven't had time to sell on Ebay yet. LOL. Sometimes I just have to stop and regroup because my mind hits overload. I am used to mind overload though, I fix jets for a living and stamps is how I unwind these days. Mike.

It's no different than collecting something such as Ohio revenues or US stamps. Add up 30 stamps each day of the year, and you've added 11k stamps a year. And then repeat (as long as it's fun & you've got the space & there's something you can add). And if something bores, then you can pick something totally different (or even put stamps totally aside). It really isn't more difficult (or different) than rest of collecting, but it does provide a 'wider perspective' to world around us.

I can't believe it's been 4+ months since I last updated this topic. But apparently time flies when you're having fun... Here's a short brief what's happened with www.stampcollectingblog.com/ in recent times/months... I just completed a three part study which dives DEEP into world of perforations: how accurate (or inaccurate) are the tools we use to measure perforations, why those inaccuracies exist, and last but not least - can a collector rely on catalog data (and what are the alternatives). There's lots of data & opinions for those interested on the technical side of stamp collecting. Below is one of the (many) stamps that several catalogs/sources provide false perforation data: And there's a wide variety of new articles providing insights into various forgeries, varieties, cinderellas etc. entering my worldwide collection. And of course all this is (still) beefed up with my opinions on life of regular worldwide collector... As always, new (and old) readers are welcomed to sign up & dive in... -k-
