Pages 2-3-4 of early Tunisia - part of my French Colonies In Africa project.....a beginning for this Country - INTRO page not scanned as it is in "french" René Page 1 was removed as I totally changed it since The Coat of Arms occupy a separate page, adding much more of 1st and 2nd series which I will scan when series 2 complete (2 stamps missing CV$) Today adding the Parcel Post Stamps 1906 with nice cancels !! Mounting is not perfect as I had a bit of "shakes" this morning (did not eat yet LOL!)

Some of the peculiar Tunisian postage due stamps, here from the second set (with the dotted background) in 1888-98, with a T-shaped set of perforations. These perforations were done with the pages of stamps folded in two, so half of the stamps have the T upside down. I was able to acquire a few more of these:

This souvenir sheet on Tunisian mosaics covers several topics, so I figured I'd be best to post it here:

Some of these have been posted previously by Rene and others with catalogue Nos. other than SG, so here, for those who are fans of repetition (and Gibbons), we will do the Roman 'Amphitheatre in El Djem' (sometimes without the initial D) all over again. The design is reminiscent of the Coliseum possibly. The full original set looks to be eighteen stamps, so obviously these here are part only. Over the years, the basic design was re-used with various alterations - surcharges etc. The few here are a small part of my boot sale acquisitions earlier this week. The 'Amphitheatre' series appears to start 1926 - 28 (?), and with various changes goes through until the 1950s - the earliest SG Nos. are 140 to 146b - numerically being split to cater for shades etc. and with values 1F.05 to 20F - the surcharge on the 1F. 50 is SG 195 from 1938. In January 1931 the basic design of the Amphitheatre is repeated but stamps now incorporate a full four-sided border which gives the stamp a possibly better appearance, and the Amphitheatre group are reduced to a lesser total of six values - still culminating in 20 F - these are SG 186 to 191. Presumably the original design runs concurrently with this 'new border' design, plus the final design revision which occurs in 1941 to 1945 - perhaps all three run together for some period of their lives. This final design alteration harks back to the original appearance, but drops the RF in the top border - these are SG 223 to 231 - a total of nine stamps, with the highest value remaining at 20 F. Possibly with post WW II inflation or simply inadequate high value stamps, in 1945 the postal authorities introduced four high values .......... F 20/25/50/100 - an example of the F 50 is shown here - in brown-red, and these high values were produced, officially, until 1949, though certainly used into the 1950s. The stamps here show dated post marks from what looks like 1926 through to 1952 - though it's possible I need Specsavers again. Sorry I can't show all the values/colours/surcharges - like all things in life I seem only to find parts of things.

coming back to the excellent posts from Rene and hrdoktorx apropos the 'Tunisia Coat of Arms' issues, and the three separate printings of this design of 1888, 1893 and 1897 - to a beginner like me these appear difficult to differentiate, and having a reasonable number from each group must surely be necessary in order to feel confident of success - which I don't have at the moment. According to SG ......... "All eight values were reprinted (from the original July 1888 series), in '93 and '97, using varying paper and adhesive types", so separation definitely not straight forward. Additionally, SG comment - regarding the July 1888 group - .... "Des. and eng E. Casse Typo" - and indeed some of the stamps do carry his name only, so presumably those examples showing just his name are from the very first printing of the 'Arms' - July 1888 - an example showing Casse's name only is attached. Back with SG, they further write .........."issues Oct. 1888 to 1898 - Des E. Casse. Eng E. Mouchon. Typo". So we take it then that any stamps with both these names will be of a later date. The other quirky feature mentioned by SG is that with the 1897 printing some stamps can be found "printed on a background of horizontal lines" . So, just for the sake of confusion ............ attached is a picture of a 5c. 'green' with Casse's name only, plus a background of horizontal lines - these lines aren't very bold, hope they can be seen - this green stamp includes the word REGENCE as part of the cancellation, so possibly the words DE TUNIS are missing. This stamp lacks the dotted background to the ARMS. Also a snap of a 1 centime 'black' (?) showing both Casse and Mouchon's name. I'm not usually into perfins, but these holed 'dues' look very bold - unfortunately I have only one example. Hope the above features can be seen - my David Bailey efforts not always v.g. Feel free to comment in any way - the more information the better.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Among the large lot of Canadian mint I picked up today there were a few stowaways including this 1998 Tunisia strip of 10 commemorating the 36th International Conference of the History of Medicine. It is nice to have the brochure talking about the conference history and the launch of the stamp. Notice the old time spelling of 'medecine' on the brochure.

The brochure talks about the first day cover for this issue. I do not have the cover but I suspect the attendees may have received one and this strip of 10 was also included inside the brochure. Notice the old time spelling of 'medecine' on the brochure. Stowaways can be fun!

One of the few countries that improved stamp design after independence. Al-mekki was the designer who did many of the stamps, and set standards.

Tunisia sc B108, 10fr Neptune design with15fr surcharge, 1949, imperf. According to Scott the surcharge was for the Association of Free French, which I gather was a charitable organization for Free French veterans.

This Tunisia cover postmarked 21 Dec 1946 (from my dad's philatelic materials) carries stamps issued from 1940 (the Scott #89 A12 60c red orange) to the Scott #199 (A12 2.50fr brown orange, enlarged image). The Scott online catalogue states the latter stamp was issued 1947-1949, but the postmark is clearly 1946. The back of the cover was annotated by my dad, "Rec'd 1/10/47." I could find no other 2.50fr A12 stamp of this color. Is this issue date an error in the Scott catalogue?

Opinion I think Scott can be excused, 11 days before 1947 One would need to find the true date they came off the press and were issued to the Post Offices. Note: 1/10/47 = 10th January 1947 10 francs seems expensive cover, anyone have the postal rates?
