they look good to me, especially the sc241. Is that bottom stamp on the right Chris Columbus breaking out of jail? I don't seem to recall that Columbian issue regards, Theron.

That's both hilarious and wrong..lol That was the E3 orange special delivery stamp that goes along with this series; in the respect that it was released with the others.

The notes in the Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps & Covers are instructive. The Columbian Exposition issue, except the 8c, were issued January 1 (a Sunday) and January 2, 1893 (the 8c was issued in March 1893). Though not issued expressly for the Exposition, the 3c orange special delivery stamp (Scott E3) is considered to be a part of that issue. From January 24, 1893 until January 5, 1894, the special delivery stamp was printed in orange (the below excerpt from the Postal Bulletin explains the rationale). The issue in that color continued until May 19, 1894, when the stock on hand was exhausted. Printing of the stamp in blue was resumed on January 5, 1894; presumably, it was reissued from May 19th until the appearance of a new stamp, Scott E4, on October 10, 1894.

Yes, it was only in use for about 5-6 months I believe. Thank you Steve. I was out and on my cellphone so I couldn't elaborate. -Jeff

I received this in a collection today. For some odd reason, my scanner ignores the perfs. Weird. Have tried several times in different locations.

Forgot to mention -- anthropologists still dig around the Museum of Science and Industry and find bottles, silverware, tins, etc. from the Exposition.
My grandmother's family took her there when she was 2 years old.

zipper - try laying a black paper over the stamp before scanning. Or scan in a black stock card.

Or use VueScan where YOU decide what gets scanned.
And JeffS mention of laying black over top is ideal!

The scanning software must have some auto crop feature that needs to be disabled.

No, some scanners do that. My Canon AIO does it too. The white background on the cover doesn't help. Why they don't have that black is beyond me!

The odd thing about it is that I scanned it as I always scan, and this is the first time this has happened. Will use black from now on.

The scanning software must have some auto crop feature that needs to be disabled. I wanted to endorse this. I've had scanning software where there is a 'home' setting, where nearly everything is automated and the user has very little opportunity to intervene. And there is usually something like an 'office' or 'professional' setting, where the user has much more control over the settings, including setting the scanning area. Sometimes, I find that the software resets itself back to the 'home' setting, and I have to go back to reestablish my preferences in the 'office' settings.
