Nice post Rod.I have become a bit more interested in last few years in trying to find per-cancels for each issue.I like you, do operate on a short budget and must gather things slower than I would like. One day I'll have college loans from my youngest paid off.Current payments are $600 per month puts a bite on the pennies.

the first set of dues.I actually had the first two sets mixed together.A simple tip look at which way the scrolls along side design end at top they either curl in toward center or out toward edge.Other than that the perfs are different.

Anyone know what the cancel on the fifteen is?? A very strange little smudge that is unlike any I've seen in period.

Anyone know what the cancel on the fifteen is?? A very strange little smudge that is unlike any I've seen in period. Canada occaisionally throws up these strange smudges. My opinion always has been that they were originally vertical line killers (Type "M") which may have worn out, and replaced by cork imitations. Sometimes the smudge is elongated which just leaves one bemused. Perhaps a finger dipped in ink? who knows? horrible things. Your block of 4 above, the 5c blue there's another lot of splodges. One interpretation / guess could originate from Parcel cancellations, parcels that wouldn't / couldn't accept a normal hammer strike, so they had a inked rag device that just cancelled the stamp. Your 50c block of 4 KE7 purple, would almost certainly be a rough parcel cancellation /splodge.

Think I take the smudge over the monkey.

The admiral issue is one of the longest runs for any stamp. It will always be a work in progress.I can only hope I have spread them out enough that it will not need moving (AGAIN)

The 2c looks Carmine, yet the block of 4 looks like Vermilion, would that be correct ?

Rod there were soooo many printings, shades are every where. The hardest to find is the pink shade more rose like to my eye. This issue will always yield varieties and fly specks. Then consider that most were dry and wet printings and also issued in different formats as well.Endless, funny as an early collector I never really liked them ,now I put other stuff aside to go back to them. The market on these turned around long bout twenty years ago and MNH are budget breakers. To my liking at the time I was acquiring them I insisted on MNH so while some are less than VF I made good purchase.I think I was around sixteen or so back when I had a few bucks.
