What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I did not feel this was worthy of a new thread so I will ask the question here. I suspect this 2p Wilding with overprint would be from some corporation. I have seen company overprints on George V and VI stamps but not on Queen Elizabeth II stamps. Just another find from the old collection I am going through. Mystery solved by rod222 . SEEB stands for South Eastern Electricity Board

I sold my GB Smilers Sheets long ago at a Car Boot sale in Essex. I remember my dear Mum was with me and she couldn't believe someone would pay so much for stamps !! Little did I know then. Little did she know too. In 2005, Royal Mail issued the 1st Series of Smilers Booklet Stamps. Self Adhesive and mostly parts or smaller versions of previously issued stamps. I could look back to this 'new' issue as a defining moment in my hobby. But I didn't dwell on it then, at least I don't remember doing so. These were the days of exciting but soon-to-be-gone MSN Forums and the first philatelic connections I ever made. 'Stamps of Great Britain' was one of those and it was busy, busy. With live Chat too it was a great outlet for information and social contact. This issue also got me writing Stamp Stories and one of them got into magazines and journals. But it was the beginning of the end of my love affair with British Stamps. But once again, I didn't know it then. My first experience of being a Moderator was at SoGB and we decided to purchase Smilers Sheets from that 2005 issue to share and give away as prizes. So here is the 'Hello' block from a sheet. I have the others somewhere and will add them when found. The old MSN web address, wow! What a memory. But soon it was gone, then yahoo groups were gone and then..........well, the fun had to end there and begin somewhere else. That's life. But when I saw this block earlier the memories came flooding back...... SG#2568

Hi tele1962 . Advice ? Ask any two philatelists or stamp collectors for advice and you get 3 opinions. But the universal advice is “ ignore the rest and enjoy what YOU like “ starting with the new reign sounds like a good place to begin 😎

Any advice would be appreciated. s You are an UK collector - am not interested in the new Great Britains but it is by choice.Do you have any stamps at the moment ?? I have 40,000 + lots of duplicates (dups) and others not inventories yet. For me it is not a contest of numbers. I collect what I like which means I do have lots lower the "dups" I do not collect. They are just sitting there. Since I do not sell stamps, I do giveaways to reduce the amount of dups. My way of giving back to our Forum. René

This cover popped up on my eBay saved searches and, although not from my home county, the Halifax, NS cancel made me jump for it. I am assuming high seas mail would be the same as a paquebot but lacking the word in the cancel. The stamp is a Scott 388 from the National Productivity Year set issued November 14, 1962. RMS Sylvania was the last Cunard Line vessel built for transatlantic crossings. It was eventually refitted as a cruise ship. Here is a link for the ship.

It was rather interesting to find a second cover from the same ship but 5 years later. This one has a 1967 Montreal cancel. It is mailed to the same person which suggests that the sender may have been a crew member. This one also features a matchbox label for King and Queen Safety Matches from Sweden. These covers came from 2 different sellers. one of the west coast of Canada and the other from New York.

hdm1950........That's a Matchbox label (1920's) and is quite scarce. Maybe even more so on a cover. Unusual.

I have started looking more closely at the old collection a good friend recently gave me. This cover was mailed to him on September 20, 1960 from the London West post office. Google search has not come up with anything that would have made the date special enough to send him a philatelic cover like this. It may be his birthday but thought I would post here first before asking him.

@hdm,Hugh, from the specialised SG Catalogue Great Britain Queen Elizabeth II Pre-decimal Issues, there is nothing listed for that date. There is a listing for "phospher bands reacting green" in June but nothing else in 1960 for the Wilding definitive.

Daniel daniel, I emailed Master Billy Rafuse and he replied: "Hi Hugh, not my birthday, I'm guessing someone in the family was in London and sent it knowing I was collecting stamps." Bill would have been 10-12 years old at that time. That being said I guess it would be classified as a favour/favor cancel and just a conversation piece now. It is sealed and appears to have a stiffener inside. I resist the temptation to open and see if there is a pound bank note inside.

Leicester Philatelic Society Semper eadem = "Always one and the same" Personal motto of Elizabeth I, appears above her royal coat of arms. Leicester Stamp and Postal History Society Leicester Philatelic Society was wound up as of the end of August 2023, due to various factors including declining membership. However, an entirely new Club (Leicester Stamp and Postal History Club) has been launched in September 2023 focussed primarily on members’ presentations but with plans for the occasional visiting speaker. Virtually all bureaucracy has been eliminated (no Officers, Committee, programme, AGM etc.) and there is no subscription. The Club is unconstituted (i.e no written constitution) and is run on an informal basis by two rotating co-ordinators, meeting as before once a month. 1907 Seal
