The young lady to whom I gave my Turkey collection - a neighbour on a different floor - returned it to me this morning. I removed the Steiner Classic Period from it for myself and set the rest aside for future trading/swopping. She told my wife that the reason for returning the collection was that her boyfriend doesn't want her to get involved in collecting stamps. I foresee a very happy marriage down the road. Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.

Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad. I was reading this post as the wife walked in, I told her the quick background story about you giving your collection to a neighbour. She could not believe that the boyfriend made her give it back because he did not want her to collect stamps. Are we not allowed to have a hobby or interest out side of the common interests we have with our significant other?. She said if I pulled a stunt like that she would.......................................................................... lets just say I would be able to sing those high notes.

I placed my post under Turkey and then it occurred to me that the point of the post would have been no less relevant should it have involved a Japanese or a Maltese collection. So I looked around to find a way of contacting you to ask for advice as to the proper placement of such a comment. But I could find no place in the various subdivisions where such a question could be asked of management. So I left it under Turkey.

That young lady should seriously rethink her relationship before it is too late.

Tony you will see a cog wheel to the right hand side click the dropdown arrow and you will see a section Report Post, Another way is just do a reply post and put a @ infront of one of the staff names such as Admin or irishjack and I will get a notice. Hope that young lady has a good long think before its to late.

The 7 ring-binder Russia collection I gave to the same lady downstairs has just been returned to my wife for the same reason as the Turkey collection was returned. Sometimes I really have to possess my soul in patience. I shall keep the Steiner classic period for myself and put the rest away for future trading.
(A theatrical whisper) A word of thanks to irishjack for his patience and instruction. The minute I turn 50 - I should now be at 30something - I shall bore you to tears with my requests. Well, Jack, I am now 70 years old; can you imagine what a pain in the butt I must have been at 25?

Both people had the courage and the courtesy to return the Albums, They could have been left on a shelf to deteriorate, and be unappreciated. There will be others that would line up for your gifts.

Rod, they were given to the same lady. Tony, out of curiosity, why did you give the stamps to this particular lady in the first place?

This particular lady had been speaking to me ever since forever about the time she spent in her childhood with her dad collecting stamps and intending someday to start again on her own. Her dad was a very nice gentle man always plugged into an air machine walker and over the years that we have been living in this tower I have always looked upon her as a collector in waiting. So when I finally lost ALL interest in both Russia and Turkey she was the first to come to mind.
So now I have two binders with collections and 8 binders with potential future trades. Not a single Russia in China nor a single Russia in Turkish Empire so I shouldn't have problems trading or buying. We'll see; a few more posts will tell.

I'm so confused by this?? Maybe the lasting effects of last night? I'll have to read again tomorrow!
But why are you giving up on Turkey & Russia?
Ok - if you're giving up on those 2 countries, what do you have? I'd love to see what you can't seem to give away! Two of my favorite countries to collect. Perhaps we can discuss a trade for a country you'd like to keep??!!

I'm sorry for the confusion. Sometimes I am thinking of one thing and typing about another. I used to collect worldwide. I had 3-ring binders coming out of my ears. We moved from a house to an apartment and for one reason or another I simply lost interest in stamps; totally, completely, and started giving all my stamps away to different people who I knew collected. I rather give my collections away for free than sell them to dealers. Stamp dealership in Ottawa, Canada is a monopoly and I shall never contribute to it. To the best of my memory I NEVER sold a stamp in my life. At the end all I had left were Russia, Turkey, Argentine Departmental Officials, and Portugal and Colonies Ceres. I gave Russia and Turkey the same way I gave everything else. Earlier on I gave 5 binders of Germany, 5 of France and 3 of Denmark/Norway/Sweden to a friend of mine who had a massive heart attack and passed away a few weeks later and heaven knows what ever became of those stamps. I wasn't even invited to the Requiem Mass or the funeral. Pre-Independence India, Convention States and Feudatory States went to a lady in her 80s who to this day still loves them to bits - they are the focus of her worldwide collection. Italy, Vatican and Malta went to a Portuguese friend of mine in Toronto. You get the idea? Now, with this lady returning Turkey and Russia, I separated Steiner's Classic periods and the rest will sit on a shelf until I trade them (for my only two interests; see below) or give them away like I did the rest. They are all on Steiner's sheets and weigh a ton. All I am really interested in are the Argies and the Port. Ceres.

mdroth: Forgot to mention: It just occurred to me that you only have 19 posts. Once we are both over 50 posts and in a position to do anything, if you are close to Ottawa, just drop in and, if I still have them, I'll put the whole mess in a cardboard box and you're welcome to them. BUT, like me, wait until you hit the magic number 50. I'm anxious too but rules is rules.
