Just a few words to apologize for my absence this year up to now. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong and every bad thing that could happen has happened. Enough already. No gory details only that my computer finally died during recent electrical storms and outages and I am just getting used to life with the new system. That has also been a nightmare but I can see light at the end of the tunnel. To put things into perspective, my computer problems were the littlest ones.
Apologies to frog, the magazine and label are still here as I had no address to send it to but it will go tomorrow. Now I must match the scanner and puter and get some auction lots ready for Feb 8th.
Normal service will be resumed shortly.

Hi Londonbus
I am glad you are back. Even though I had backups of everything it still took a month to get things back to normal after my computer went bump. I am still finding software that I need and did not reload initially. One advantage, I got rid of all the junk software and the machine is cleaner.
firstfrog2013 There is nothing wrong with antiques. I am on one with XP. I did find that buying a refurbished computer from a reliable "mom and pop" computer store does work.
When my first machine died I bought this machine from the shop and they configured and loaded software I needed, all for $100. I am planning on getting a new machine and am going to buy one of theirs. These guru shop brand X computers have better components and are more reliable than commercial ones. In addition, my shop gives a three year all inclusive warranty on parts and labor, all for $400, including MS office. In addition they load some software for me. Try and get that for a retail machine. Jerry B

Jerry I agree. This one blue screened several years ago.a trip to small shop had it up and running again, cleaned with more memory for less than $200.Yes I still run XP for me the computer is a toy,I can't justify spending a ton on new stuff and will probably do the same. They had refurbished machines there for not much more than my repair.

This day and age there are so many used laptops and computers on the market. Those little hole in the wall joints is where to go. Bus thought you had locked yourself in your stamproom and went off the grid.

Hi Jack
Not only that you get service without complaints. A friend brought his computer back to Best Buy Geek Squad and they said it was dead and he needed a new machine. He brought it to a small "hole in the wall" shop and they had it running within a day. These guys are like the "mom and pop" print shops. Their reputation depends on service. I did find one guru shop that I wasn't thrilled with even though they did the job. As anything, Buyer Beware.
The shop I go to floored me when they said the new computer has a 3 year warranty. This re-furbished one they just refreshed has a one year on the work they just did.
Yesterday my mouse scroll wheel died. What a pain in the neck using scroll bars. Oh well, off to Wal-Mart and buy another $8 mouse. This one lasted for about 2 years.

Jerry.I've been using this odd mouse over ten years. My son and I have very heavy hands and were playing AOE a lot.Seems we destroyed mouses in couple weeks. Then I found this one,It has a large red ball on top instead of the little one under it.It takes getting used to but bulldozer tuff and not very expensive beside.

we destroyed mouses in couple weeks MOUSES? MEESE? MICES? I have a friend who hated mice and always used a trackball. He said they should be called "cats." He also advocated for a foot-operated trackball so he could keep his hands on the keyboard.

Hi
I tried my friend's trackball. No way José. I do a lot of programming and I usually highlight a portion of a variable. I cannot get that kind of control with the trackball as I can with a mouse. Also I am not into wireless mice. If it cannot be plugged in (USB or power outlet) then it doesn't get near the computer.
Just an opinion.

Hi As my Spanish wife says, "English is @*$!*" (she doesn't count the multiple Spanish words for the same item). I am afraid I might start a trend but here goes House -> Houses why not mouse to mouses (Micky and Daisy would be the 2 mouses) Goose -> Geese why not moose -> meese (in Maine we have mooses not meese) Those are the only 2 I can think of right now. Jerry B Correction: Goose -> Geese why not moose -> meese (in Maine we have moose (one or more) not meese)

LOL Jerry B I hope you know my comment was all in fun. And I will be the first to admit, as someone who works with computers every day, it sounds strange to say "a box of computer mice" instead of "a box of mouses." But while I'm on a roll at being a wise-a** --- Mickey and Minnie are mice. Daisy is a duck LOL !!

Hi KirkS
OOOPS! Stand corrected. However, we do have a frog and pig relationship, so why not a mouse and duck?

I have a wireless keyboard with a touch pad (like a laptop) only time I use it is when the battery on the wireless mouse dies. Has anyone tried those finger mounted mouse Jack: Your post prompted me to research this a little bit, since I'm doing a lot of coding and keyboard work right now, and am feeling the consequences in my hand, shoulder and neck of using a standard wireless mouse. Some of the reviews I've read have not been that favorable. Here's one from the MIT Technology Review (I figured they might know what they're talking about!) that was not hopeful, and says basically that even though the mouse does not weigh that much, the reviewer began to notice the weight of it after using it for a little while: www.technologyreview.com/news/532901/feeling-more-amateur-than-maestro-with-a-finger-worn-mouse/I may still try one, although I'm now thinking that maybe I need to find a slimmer mouse, so that my hand is not always open so wide. (I'm also thinking that maybe I have not been using my current one as ergonomically as I should have been. Will require some re-training to break old habits.) Did you explore this option any further? -- Dave

Hi firstfrog2013
No problem. It seems you have the same weird sense of humor I have, or so I have been told.

Still trying to get used to the new system, lots to sort out still. Managed to get the scanner working OK will be busy over the next day or two. One of the 'frustrations' was being ill in bed over my birthday and all plans were cancelled. Yesterday, I managed a consolation and got out to a good flea market in Tel Aviv to look for my 'prezzy to myself'. You'll see it in the Cinderella section shortly.
