My name is Steve. I'm originally from the Chicago area but have been living in Northern Virginia for about 20 years now.
I collect primarily United States (pre-1985) -- mint and used, covers, and back-of-book. My father gave me his worldwide collection but I haven't yet found the time to give it the required focus. I've also gained an appreciation for Cinderellas since joining several stamp-related forums.
I'm looking forward to participating in The Stamp Forum and commend Jack for getting it off the ground

Welcome aboard and thanks Steve. I think you will like it, early days but we will get off the ground soon.

Welcome Steve. From your avatar it looks like you collect cachets maybe?

The only cachets that I actively pursue are the 61 that are listed in Mellone's for the 1945 Iwo Jima issue (Scott 929). My goal is to acquire one of each cachet with both the large and small dial CDS; unfortunately, I still have a long way to go.

Welcome to the group! That cachet collections looks really interesting. It will be quite the display as you fill in more of the missing pieces. I hope you continue to post updated pictures as you get more covers.

Steve: Very interesting FDC topic. Out of curiosity, how (or with what application) did you make that composite graphic? (At least, I'm assuming it's a composite -- otherwise, that's quite a bulletin board on your wall!)

Dave, I used IrfanView, a freeware program available for download at www.irfanview.com/The composite image was made using the program's "create panorama image" function. And per Jack's recent posting about bandwidth, it is effective in reducing image file sizes without sacrificing quality (the below image was scanned at 600 dpi, resized to 1024x768 pixels, and saved at 98kb).
