What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

Weeda Stamps puts out a newsletter every three weeks or so, and this week's newsletter concerns literature available for info on Small Queens. It's a good review of what's out there, both among the classics with overall Canadian stamp coverage and the many specialized volumes available. I never knew there was so much out there! Ryan

The link's there, sort-of-hidden in the words "this week's newsletter". I've also included the ID parameter for that newsletter, as the standard link will point to their next newsletter in 2 or 3 weeks.

Very Interesting Ryan. I just saw that second book for sale on EBAY just a couple days ago. I don't remember what price the seller was asking for it. It may still be there for sale but I doubt it. Thanks for sharing the Info Ryan. Now I will keep my eyes open.

My apologies Ryan -- it could be the theme that I'm using, but your link looks like "ordinary text." But I learned something, so thanks! :-)

Seems as good as place as any, for a review of the Montreal vs. Ottawa printings as currently documented in known & available sources. From Rene's ( renden ) posting here, the listings for the Montreal Printings of Canada's Small Queens extend past 1887, whereas Boggs in his text, The Postage Stamps and Postal History of Canada, suggests that the Second Ottawa Printings begins in 1887, The Bogg's reference supports the Reverend Dr. George F. Dewey writings as shared in this thread, but at this point, with the conflict of dates, one wonders...
If anyone has and additional information on the timeline for the British American Bank Note Company, please do share...
Have fun and happy collecting!

From the above mentioned article, it states, "In 1871 the plant was transferred from Ottawa to Montreal, then back to the original Ottawa site in 1889." So unless there is other information, mea culpa and with new knowledge in hand, I have an album page of 2¢ Small Queens to redo...
Have fun and happy collecting!

Sticking with the 'Hillson & Nixon' text René ( renden ), is this the same one published by the Vincent Grave Greene Philatelic Research Foundation?
I have seen reference to the published text in an earlier edition of the British North American Philatelic Society's journal , "BNA Topics", but before I add it to the library wishlist, I would like to confirm... Thanks and happy collecting!

Thanks and happy collecting! The book on Small Queens (scan)- very different than Boggs whose 870 pages "historical" book, in black and white and very confusing in the section on SQs but is full of historical facts.......this book was first copyrighted in 1945 !!! and my late dad bought the 1975 printing in 1982, for $60 at the time - René

Given my recent experiences with the 'historical facts' presented in the Boggs text, I will pass on adding that one to the library. Instead, I had a look on the Vincent Grave Greene Philatelic Research Foundation website and found the Small Queen era text under their VGG Publications section; the image matches the one above and I will add this one to the library wishlist.
On a somewhat related note, I see that we are already into a 2nd, if not 3rd reprint of the Hillson and Nixon text...
Thanks René and happy collecting!
