Here is an attractive German poster stamp for the Baltic Exhibition in Malmö, Sweden, held from May 15 to October 4, 1914. History buffs will know that things were getting pretty exciting in Europe at that time. The inscription Baltische Ausstellung is German, though the event was held in Sweden. Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Russia participated to show off technology, arts and crafts of the Baltic region. Interestingly, the first World War broke out and Russia abandoned its pavilion, leaving artworks behind that still reside in an art museum in Malmö. The stamp depicts storks flying past the exhibition grounds' 287-foot-tall observation tower. The stamp is based on the exhibition's poster done by Ernst Norlind. Apparently, storks were a favorite subject of his, and the poet Rilke said of his storks that they were caught in time, frozen in the moment.

While the industrialists were busy having their exhibition, the agricultural society for Scania province celebrated their 100-year anniversary, too. Local newspaper accounts say that police had to direct traffic due to the unprecedented amount of automobile traffic. Apparently, 170 trains brought people in from all over Sweden. Here is a poster stamp for the event: SKANSKA JUBILEUMS LANDTBRUKS-MÖTET MALMÖ 1914
