I belong to the "big three" and so far...well I haven't been banned yet...hahaha. EDIT: Also, I know this is a really stupid and typical American type question but - You see a lot of kangaroos where your at? (I'm serious I really wish to know?) The reason is that my Daughter is totally into Roos right now. I told he I have some friend that live in Australia and that I would ask. |

Yes Jeff, Kangaroos abound here, sometimes when we are out cycling, they race along the fence line, they leave us easily at 30 Kph, and scatter randomly. They are very skittish. Should I drive to the city, (250Km) I will see the usual carnage of 2-5 Kangaroos dead on the highway. They come in to the warmth of the tarmac, and the road trains hit them. We has one last month come into town, he had a leather necklace, a pet from a farm 10Km out. We herded it into someone's front lawn, whilst the owner came in to pick it up. (Harder to find than my stamp tongs) Geographic area and geopolitical area aren't always the same and it sure makes for confusion sometimes. Wikipedia has an article for countries on multiple continents. There are obvious ones like Russia or Turkey that geographically straddle the division from one continent to another, but you also have things like Greenland, geographically in North America but more often considered a part of Europe. Trinidad & Tobago, too - barely off the coast of Venezuela so that would put them in South America, but always lumped in with the Caribbean, which would put them in North America. Rod, you're the big cricket fan - don't people from Guyana play on occasion for the West Indies? Quick dig through Wikipedia - Shivnarine Chanderpaul is from British Guiana, among many others who have played on the West Indies team. Ryan |

You could have knocked me down with a feather. This British Guiana stamp auctioned a couple of days ago on eBay, and fetched $US2,382.00 Described as Unused. Has thin spots. I notice; one misplaced ornament, and a "l" before POSTAGE. But whether that is the reason for the high price, I don't know. `Paul Attachments:

Another typographed stamp from the same batch (for the image collection). Also described as having a thin spot, this one sold for $109.49. Noted that third ornament up, on the right side of the stamp, has a small deformity, which is the same as on the one I have (image on page 1 of this thread). Happy hunting `Paul Attachments:

The 1c is one handsome stamp, I don't understand your surprise,
Sc lists around $5,000 mint.
Prices for stamps are so flexible, I was made to look very foolish the other day when I bid on Manchuria.
They were knocked down at 3 times Scott Catalogue.

Similar to Perf 14 post, earlier on, My Scott 199 (with 80% ? dodgy postmark ) 1. You would expect, given the stamp is affixed to the top Right Hand Corner of the cover , that postmarks would cover the bottom 2 quadrants of the stamp. 2. Most early postmarks of BG are readable.  However, here is one on cover that, if soaked would look dodgy. (Looks like 60c was the going Air rate to US)  |

This British Guiana stamp auctioned a couple of days ago on eBay,
and fetched $US2,382.00
I am having trouble Identifying this stamp, it is a type 10, with an incorrect ornament on RHS ?
This stamp is not listed anywhere I see.

Thank you, Rod. According to my old Scott catalogue, it is Type A6. But it doesn't mention any ornament varieties. The only variety mentioned is a 4c missing inner lines (cheaper than a normal!). Attached a scan of my catalogue. If the current price you mentioned is correct, these stamps certainly have increased in value, very handsomely indeed, since 1997. `Paul click image to enlarge Attachments:

That stamp must have really suffered in storage. I can't imagine they would use such a poor looking picture for a $10 million stamp unless that was as good as it actually looks. Old pictures from the "days of yore" certainly didn't make the stamp look that tough. Ryan |

Bravo Steve! I posted it as perhaps a Stamp Identification 101 The central hole is clean from a single puncture, indicating a "Comb" perforation, (was 1949). Where the central puncture has two hits, it must be line perforation. (was 1943) The corollory probably follows that there will be a perforation divergence, which in this case it was 12.1/2 x 13.1/2 in 1943 to 13x14 (comb) in 1949 No CV difference but a good indicator for other stamps "Comb" perforations should be also identified by the "corner ears" of the stamps perforation they should have a common "notch" on the tip of each corner PS: On this stamp in particular, look for "Watermark Error" A crown is missing (Must have fallen off the Dandy Roll at sometime or other) No value offered. |
