Two more cards with a military flavour. The top one is a card from the K.u.K.Military Construction Corps in Gorz, sent on Aug 20 1914 to Triest. The bottom card is a Feldpost card with censor markings sent to a unit in Alschach,Austria.Postmark is not very clear but writing on reverse shows a date of Aug 8,1917 and the place name of Rujkovac,a small village in Serbia.

Postal card sent on 1 September 1892 from Triest to Antwerp,Belgium. This appears to be correspondence between stamp collectors or dealers. The sender is acknowledging receipt of Bulgarian reply cards and is sending Austrian reply cards plus complete sets of the 1850 and 1864 Austrian stamps.....a very generous offer. Many thanks to Werner salentin for help with translation of the message.

Stationery card sent in March 1913 from a cotton mill in Beraun,Bohemia to a company in Manchester,UK. I would imagine they were buying some type of textile,as Manchester was the centre of the cotton trade.A price of 5d a pound is quoted. The card has another 5h value stamp for international rate.

A stampless Red Cross related WWI cover. Too bad the red Austrian military marking is very faint and mostly missing. The K.U.K. translates as “kaiserlich und königlich” or “Imperial and Royal” in English, similar to the British term “King and Country”. I’ve seen several POW and Red Cross covers like this routed to Denmark (one of the countries that I collect). After a bit of research, I learned that the reason for this is that the ICRC - International Committee of the Red Cross “at the start of the war the Agency handled the correspondence, gifts and money orders sent to prisoners of war. These activities were subsequently taken over by the postal services of the neutral countries, i.e. Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden.” (“ICRC in WW1” link to article on ICRC website; link) The POWs held by the Hapsburg empire were treated very poorly. Here’s a link to an article about them; WWI POWs

Drucksache....printed matter card sent from Hirschberg in Bohmen on November 16,1906. The card advertises a new ink-remover and also a tube for applying gum....possibly an early glue stick pen ? A quick Wikipedia check found no more information on these products or on Rudolf Pohl, the sole distributor.

my first post sharing my first day covers from Austria this one is is commemorating 50 years of the Grossglocker road (and a chapel ) up in the highest mountain in Austria. the wikipedia page on “Heiligenblut am Großglockner” gives the history about the chapel and the road that has been commemorated. (thanks philatelia for the guidance ) explains a bit of the past of the chapel and the road that this first day cover is about. "A chapel at Heiligenblut in the Duchy of Carinthia was first mentioned in 1271, containing a relic of the Blood of Christ. According to legend, a flask of the Holy Blood, which is today kept in a sacrament house, was brought here in 914 AD from the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople by a Danish knight called Briccius (Frederick, not to be confused with Saint Brice), once in the service of Emperor Constantine VII. On his way home across the Alps, he was buried by an avalanche and in the face of death hid the relic in an open wound at his calf. His corpse was later found by local peasants at a place where three ears of wheat broke through the snow—as rendered in the Heiligenblut coat of arms. The Gothic pilgrimage church dedicated to Saint Vincent of Saragossa, with its prominent spire, was built between 1460 and 1491. The church also houses a late-Gothic winged altarpiece from 1520, and a crypt and tomb containing Briccius' mortal remains. A transhumance agricultural as well as a gold mining from ancient history to the Middle Ages, Heiligenblut was a stop on the bridle path and later Roman road leading to the Hochtor Pass across the Alps, probably already in use during the Hallstatt culture which followed on from the Late Bronze Age. In 1834 Archduke John of Austria had a first mountain hut built beneath the pass, and a driveway was constructed from 1875. The opening of the Grossglockner Road in 1935 decisively promoted the economy of Heiligenblut as a tourism and mountaineering resort. the first day cover celebrates 50 years of the opening of the Grossglockner Road in 1935. anilkhemlani - Thank you for sharing a picture of this piece. However, As almost your entire post is a cut and paste, word for word, from the wikipedia article on “Heiligenblut am Großglockner”, that should be noted and those words should be placed in quotations. Sources should be cited when copied so extensively. Here is a link to the article: link to article used above

Nice to see Heiligenblut getting attention. Aside from Vienna and a favorite gas station, it is the only part of Austria I know even a little. It's at the north end of an extraordinary valley. My wife's family went for years toward the end of the summer to pick chanterelles. We went too, more for the hiking trails, the biggies to the left/west on this stamp from 1946. The hikes are painful. None of the usual 'get into the rhythm' nonsense. You die all the way up. Coming down is pretty zippy.
The village is more built up now, with big hotels in the valley below the church. You can see the Grossglockner on the stamp, top; highest mountain in the eastern alps. My son first learned terror as a passenger in our car driving up the Glocknerstrasse through the fog. He says he forgave us as he got older.

This a first day cover from Austria, about St. Francis of Assisi. The cover commemorates 800 years since the birth of St. Francis of Assisi. the special postmark is a 2 in one postmark, where it also commemorates 75 years of the Boy Scouts movement in 1982. the small square inside the oval has the scouts Fleur de Lis. I was a scout from 1978 to 1982. Still remember some of the knots.
