A 6d KGV with George and turtles heading to the water: A 4d, in a typically attractive colorway for 4d stamps: George VI with a Cayman schooner, and some nautical themes to the design:

Lovely stamps, cjd. I especially like the turtles and the yacht. PS - edit.

More turtles. The same designs were often reused from reign to reign, but here, they modified the turtles for KGVI, including a switch to vertical format:

I guess it was cheaper to reuse the same overall engraving? Or maybe they just liked them. Still the new turtles a very nice on their own right.

Cayman Islands were pretty diverse in their definitive issues during the KGV era, after being rather staid through Victoria and Edward. They started out with the basic key plates for the first issue, and then had a new design created, that I find very pleasing to the eye. Here is an example from the 1921 issue, a 2d: They also went to the larger format for a commemorative issue in 1932 with KGV and William IV (that doesn't really work for me) and the pictorials of 1935-36 (which includes the 6d turtles, above).

I like the way the designer of the font, has placed the "A" over the "L", that's cool. cjd's stamps are always so PERFECT! do you own any stamp with a pulled perf Collin?

Great blocks Roos! I saw something really nice the other day. A whole set in blocks put into a picture frame...they looked really good and would compliment someone's stamp-den. Do you have the whole set in blocks? If you do and post them I'll do a virtual framing to see how they would look...

I like the way the designer of the font, has placed the "A" over the "L", that's cool. I agree, rod, that is one of my favorite elements of the design. It is a well that was visited more than once by stamp designers for colonial issues. Before I say this, I should probably do a few minutes of research to see if I can identify the designer(s), but...here is a Virgin Islands definitive that goes to the same place...I'll scan a cleaner stamp tomorrow (if I remember). Are there others? I was thinking a G&E KGVI, but I didn't spot it in a cursory look..maybe Solomon Islands?

Tch Tch "British Solomon Islands" if you please , Sir No, none there, ( the 1 pound is a sizzling price! ) where would you find the font designer of the KGV? Very specialised info I should imagine.

That general arrangement, portrait top left, vignette bottom right, ended up being used in a number of colonies. Maybe I just assume a 'group effort' at De La Rue?

Ah Yes Easton, I'll drag it out on the morrow, cjd, and post any results, look forward to that revisit. I like your thoughts on DeLaRue.

24hrs hence, the next day, which is today, and I have failed. Concreting this morning, and pinched a nerve in my back, Hobbling around like an old goat. I have Easton on my desk, but am in foul humour. I'll post ASAP.

Easton: 1862 Perkins Bacon contract expired for the colonial issues. Plates passed onto de la Rue. They tried to persuade these colonies to go letterpress, in which de la Rue held almost a monopoly. For expedience, they persuaded the colonies the principle of printing in a new colour, from a plate of a denomination already in existence. then overprinting or surcharging in printers type. (My suggestion.) Therin lies the eventual adoption of the letteress "types", ....expediency, low cost v line engraving (not sure when Perkins patent expired) and speed of production. Values we see even today with most products. The evolution.

What I haven't done is scan and enlarge one...what stamp doesn't benefit from a nice, big scan?

The Cayman Parrot has a red throat. I think the mark was put there on purpose.
