This stamp block celebrated the 1967 inauguration of Port Ifni. Because the water was so shallow, the Spanish authorities created a unique sea crane system that was constructed 550 meters offshore. It loaded/unloaded cargo and people through the use of cable carts supported by pylons. The cable line ran to a landing station near the city's cliff. In 1969, Morocco and Spain signed a treaty ceding Ifni to Morocco. The crane system lasted for only a few years.   |
