Nice British CW posts as always, Michael ( Londonbus1)! There is an entire thread about the Ceylon CAVE Overprints here: www.stampcommunity.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=54834It seems to be something in purpose akin to a perfin. Something to do with being a theft deterrent from my brief scan of the other thread.

Also, I just took a look at first post again, Michael ( Londonbus1 ), and I think you made a typo: Ceylon, SG 4 is a 4-pence dull rose imperforate stamp with a CV of £4500 in used condition. I think yours is Ceylon, SG 18, half-penny dull mauve, perf 12-1/2 with CV £180. Still, a very nice stamp! CVs shown are from a 2014 edition of the SG CW & British Empire Stamps 1840-1970.

Just finished mounting up my Ceylon stamps. Most of the first pages are very empty (something I need to work on), and things don't start looking more populated until after the King George V pictorials. Here are afew of my favorite pages and/or sets. I really love this New Constitution set. Not expensive by any stretch, but nice colors. And who doesn't love bi-colored stamps? Some WAR STAMP overprints Had to do a bit of research on these commercial overprints. Sort of like perfins. Will have to see if I can get some more to populate this page.

The CV is only for the stamp with postal cancel. This stamp is fiscally used. So, the real market value will be just a fraction of the CV.

What is the difference between a postal cancel (this stamp) and a fiscally used ? René p.s. I should have not discussed CV.......it all depends what reference you use (catalog) - My intent was to thank Londonbus1 Scottt 2019 Specialized

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Today had me going through the envelope of Ceylon stamps. This is another country that I have quite an accumulation but I did at least find a perf variety I was missing from the 1935 George V set and also this Queen Victoria 15 cents with a lovely clean postmark with the letter A. I suspect there is a listing somewhere for Ceylon but my search so far has not turned up one for these early ones. What I found were for ring cancels with actual names.
