Hi, everybody! Maximaphily is a branch of philately, or stamp collecting, that means collecting maximum cards. I do NOT make a strict distinction between Philately and Stamp Collecting, despite "academic belief" that there is one. Stamp collecting is more about the gathering of stamps, but how can you not be tempted to study some of them, once in a while? Philately is more about the research of stamps, but how can you not gather at least a small collection? We, the lovers of this hobby, do both collecting and researching, more or less. I would say that the advanced stamp collectors are more philatelists than the simple "accumulators" of stamps. I don't know ANYBODY who is a "philatelist" but has NO stamp whatsoever! Do you? Generally, a maximum card is a postcard, with a stamp and a postmark on the picture side. Ideally, all these 3 elements should be concordant, but not identical. Anybody can collect them, just like collecting simple stamps. But that's too passive. The fun and challenge are in CREATING YOUR OWN maximum cards! Then you can exchange some with partners/friends from around the world! I do that, and it's very interesting! The traditional way is to comply with the rules of FIP (International Philatelic Federation). www.maximaphily.info/The non-traditional way, as I call it, is to follow nobody's rules! Unless YOU want it, of course. I call DORINCARD (you can call it any way YOU want) any postcard that was personalized by adding a stamp and a postmark, on the picture side of the postcard. Traditional way, or not. Calling it with such a custom name can quickly pacify the purists and hardliners who might say, otherwise: "It's not a rules-compliant maximum card!". Well, it may or may not be a true maxicard (even the purists don't always agree on the rules interpretations), but it can always fit your CUSTOM definition and name. Dorin, if you pre-type text in a word processor, then post it on "The Stamp Forum", it sometimes "double spaces" as in your text.
It is irritating, I don't think we have fixed it as yet, but it is awkward to read you can always "edit" your text, and delete the white lines, if you are so inclined.

Thank you, Admin! rod222, I did not use a word processor for that; I just copied and pasted from another post, in another website. But sorry, anyway! Even if it doesn't seem THAT awkward to me, and sometimes it can emphasize better an idea. For forum purposes, I will try to keep the posts rather compact...but not crowded. You do have a valid point. Longer posts need some paragraphs, I think. Chunks of text are better than a continuous single-spaced long text. Thank you! Please explore some of my USA-related items: s289.photobucket.com/user/dorincard/library/World%20collections/United%20StatesFor example:

Dorin, where would this lie, in the scheme of things? Pertinent? or just a standard "First Day Cover" with concordant Postmark? Australia tends to have "Official First Day Cover Post Offices" that offer concordant Postmarks Falcon is a beachside town, not far from us.

Very interesting. A maxicard does NOT need to have a First Day cancel(lation). A cover usually means envelope, but I personally prefer to also accept that it can mean a "postcard", as in a "book front cover". Postally speaking, a letter means an envelope, or the written page(s) inside an envelope...or both. A card should mean a postcard, or a postal card, or a post card. But a lettercard? It looks like an aerogramme, almost. Traditional maximaphilists might object to your nice falcon item, but I would take a whole view of the item, as laid out in your image, and I would consider it at least a "non-traditional maxicard".

Variation on a theme. For the record. A fully concordant "First Day Cover" Let's call it a Maxi Cover Cachet, stamp, postmark, and location. Note: First "peel and stick" stamp, from Gumly Gumly New South Wales Australia

Dorin, you may consider adding "Teaser" texts, to your scans.
Example : A simple type "Roof Gardens" on your work above, may assist you, and others to find your post again on The Stamp Forum, (using the search engine) People Googling on the net, may also find your passion. Cheers

Australia 1990 Maxicard "Golden Wattle" (The flower that adorns the Australian King George V sideface stamps) Acacia pycnantha Officially adopted as Australia's National Floral Emblem in 1988 Is the genesis of Australia's colours of green and gold (Wattles in general) Personally, if I get within 20 feet, my nose runs, my eyes water, I sneeze and get Asthma. Horrible critter. Has become a weed in South Africa, Tanzania, Italy, Portugal, Sardinia, India, Indonesia, New Zealand

Yes, Rod, "teaser text" and keywords help search results...but sometimes I don't have enough time, so I just post images. ===== Australia sub-album: Dorin, naughty you, you shall have to make time, or your work dissolves Before you convict Mr. Postie, (or Mrs Postie, AusPost employ 50/50 of the sexes) consider perhaps........... The card has gone through a CFC (Culler Facer Canceller) machine, it may have had a dog ear, that caught in the machinery, and been torn during removal. (I see no rational reason why a postie would tear a corner) Here is an envelope "grabbed by the sorter" You have a nice Aussie collection, I love our wildlife. Nice maxi of the Wallaby, I have always thought our early halfpenny orange stamp was a Wallaby, not a Kangaroo, but hard to prove.
