Since I postmarked it myself at the post office desk inside the National Postal Museum, I saw the dimensions of the postmark, so I placed the stamp to avoid getting the postmark over MLK's face. Here's the backside:

This Maxicard has been photoshopped, the distant Eucalypt lies in front of the termite Mound. How do I know, the dirt track, runs directly North?

These are all great! I came across a couple of different items at my sister-in-law's this past week. They were cards - post card size - with no photo either side, but with a written message on one side, and a stamp that was printed onto the card, and an address on the other side.
What are these? Are they the precursors to post cards? Or something else? The stamp on one was a 4 cent Canadian cameo Queen.

It would live in the catalogue (Country) / Postal Stationery /Bob (Back of book) Unitrade catalogue would list it. Hope that helps.

Thanks Rod. I've never seen them without photos before. They can be a collecting discipline, themselves Jean. The first Picture Postcard 1843 Others with no picture, gave opportunity to write longer messages on the reverse. Postcards from WW1 pre printed, letting Mum and Dad know, you were still alive, one filled in the blanks, no postmarks used. Taxed Postcard from Iran, who desired to ban postcards, but were not allowed, so they censored those importing them, especially unveiled ladies. Some reading

Jean, you have no doubt seen these before, a book of Postcards, can be neat if they are in your area of interest. They live in shoeboxes, impossible to mount.

Hmm... 1843...I didn't know post cards have been around that long! I've seen books of post cards that separate into different cards for mailing. But not ones that stay intact for mailing. Post cards really aren't my thing. But now you have me wondering. My grandmother had a post card collection, and I'm sure it's in my house somewhere... Also, as I recall, my mother had a bit of a post card collection...but I don't think hers were postally used.

I never knew what Maximaphily was until I read this thread. Fascinating and quite lovely how all this is put together. I found some covers in a large group of covers that appear to be in this same area of collecting, but they are older and someone has obviously put these together. But since these are not on cards, is this still considered to be Maximaphily? I guess it is but these are just not Maximum Cards, they are on envelopes. But would anyone collect these? or do they only collect the cards? I have about twelve of them, possibly more, that I will probably sell off, maybe in the auction? Here's a couple. The stamp is the Fort Garry Gate in downtown Winnipeg The stamp is the Confederation of Canada (Charlotteltown Conference) in Charlottetown Prince Edward Island The stamp is the World Grain Exhibition in Regina, Saskatchewan Ottawa Conference Set

These nice envelopes are not part of maximaphily, but of "cover collecting". My "non-traditional maximaphily", though, would say that from your online viewing perspective they could be considered by you (if you are open-minded) maxicard images [if they were with concordance of 1) subject (card/stamp/postmark), 2) geographic place, 3) timeframe of postal validity for stamp, more or less]. AS IF you had one postmarked stamp per cacheted card. A scanned card may look like a scanned envelope, as far as your viewing pleasure allows. Postally-speaking, of course that the postal services distinguish between 1) envelopes (covers), and 2) postcards.

Ottawa Conference Set
The Travellers Bldg is now converted into condos, its was deemed a heritage building so the outside remains the same as it originally was. It was used as a place for travelling salesmen to conduct business.
Taken from www.virtual.heritagewinnipeg.com/vignettes/vignettes_024.htm
I use to work with a chap that owned a condo in that building, its a interesting area of Winnipeg. The exchange district had many warehouses and was a central distubution hub for Canada, you still can see all the old painted signage on the walls from past companies. The city of Winnipeg has a preservation order on the old wall signage.

Thanks for the info. I wonder how Mr. Davis got all these envelopes mailed to him between Aug 28 and Aug 30 from all across the country. Maybe it was his birthday. This was only a few days after Paris was liberated by Allied troops in World War II.
I looked up the dates on these and the 1944 dates are of no consequence but the Ottawa Conference cover is a First Day Cover that catalogs in Unitrade for $45.

The 1843 was a personally produced card Jean, so perhaps we can only consider "Postcards" per se, as from when they were produced in bulk as an idea. This type of discipline will probably have its day, many years from now, when the nostalgia era kicks in. In my particular location, early Western Australia Postcards are highly prized, as a window into our heritage, they now range in price from $25 each, and upwards, depending on the subject matter.

But since these are not on cards, is this still considered to be Maximaphily? I echo Dorin's sentiments, Jimjung. Personally, I have these in the hiearchy, as "Cachet collecting" I keep and collect, United States Ken Ball, and his "Cachet Craft" Covers, Askphil : Definition. Cachet (Pron: Cashay) Cachet is a French word; it is a design found on an envelope describing an event. This can be an important expedition, a particular air flight or an exposition. A cachet is also used to denote the first day of use of a stamp or a particular anniversary or event. The cachet may be official or private.
