If all goes well over the next year I want to take a trip to this show I will take a couple of days and vist Frog and his mom. Sorry frog but your mom seems to have quite the collection to look at. LB1 is also talking about making that show as well. Maybe be could get a few members together for it and make a little TSF event. Maybe a day fishing in the Catskills , sit back and shoot the breeze and enjoy good friendship.
One thing since starting this forum many a friendship as develop because of TSF it's one thing I very proud of.!

It's still the plan to build my holiday around 'New York 2016'. If health and budget allows, I am thinking of a 2-week trip taking in Washington DC and New York with hopefully a quick stopover in Florida to visit a dear friend. I won't go fishing but a hike in the Catskills has already been discussed !!

Steve you in for a weekend of stamps and fish I'm afraid it isn't in the cards for me -- far exceeds my stamp budget and I'll likely be out of town during that timeframe. Like Rod, I'll be with you in spirit...

Okay folks I can host whoever cares to come hang out.A day hike with a bit of fishing would be fun.I also have access to old farm with three acre pond just teeming with fish and a lean-to.We'll work on that whole bit.Mom would love to go but she isn't up to it.Her mobility issues are getting serious and she has a hard time hearing more than one voice at a time.We can still go visit her she will be thrilled for the company and sure to break out her hoard of stamps. She is always asking about her friends here. Not sure you got the golf cart right it's fourteen feet long and will seat six large adult sober or more drunk.(don't ask how I know that)My wife is my finish painter and has first coat done and hardening.I'll budget some money so I can maybe split a room with someone? We'll be able to catch a train into Penn Station from right across the river and after the show anyone interested can come back and hang out for couple more days.I like Jack am amazed at the friends I haven't met but know so well.

I just checked the show is actually dated for Memorial Day weekend. Not sure why anyone would even propose that! I for one can not attend and if anyone else is considering this show,I advise extreme caution, the holiday traffic is horrendous and lodging on a holiday weekend is easily twice the cost. I seriously question the wisdom of choosing that date.My wife is always working holiday weekends and relies on me to feed her as the campground is packed. Wish a little more forethought was given on this one. It might have been a good time to meet up with some of you.

The exhibition runs Saturday through Saturday so it will be possible to avoid the Memorial Day weekend. The organizers have made arrangements with over 25 "conference hotels" to offer show attendees reduced rate rooms so if anyone is planning to attend I'd recommend making your room reservations through the NY2016 website.

Steve, that first Saturday is the start of Memorial Day weekend. Would be interested in feedback after the show.I'm sure it will be a good time but really wonder why that date was chosen. Most use that holiday for cook outs and such. I mean after all there are other dates that would have been better for the majority of us. Was there a vote or something along those lines? It absolutely makes little sense to do it on a holiday weekend. Especially in a large city, well I guess there is always next year. Good luck to those choosing to travel it ain't going to be pretty.

Steve, that first Saturday is the start of Memorial Day weekend...really wonder why that date was chosen. The 2006 show in Washington ran from May 27 through June 3 so that time frame has precedent. Perhaps scheduling this over a long weekend makes it easier for U.S. participants to attend as those who are still working don't have to take as much time off of work. With this being an international event, our holiday may not have factored much into the equation. I agree the holiday traffic along the entire I-95 corridor is less than ideal -- maybe the organizers' thinking is that may cause people to come earlier and stay longer -- the NY tourism bureau would certainly support that! I'm also interested in hearing from attendees as I won't be able to go.

Steve, I used your link to find an email address for the organizers. If you or anyone else sees fit you can find their emails to communicate with them.I did express my disappointment with the chosen dates.I figure maybe someone will listen for future plans. What more can we as collectors do? If the shoe don't fit we ain't buying it. Listen the 95 corridor is nothing compared to the NYS Thruway I've seen forty mile parking lot on a 65mph modern highway every holiday weekend. I laugh 'cause I won't travel anywhere that weekend, and to spend money in NYC?? NAH !!

So I received a reply suggesting I take the bus instead of driving into NYC. Now think about that...if traffic is stopped and you shouldn't drive does the bus fly?? Okay enough obviously the only way to get there is take a train. From experience I'll tell you in places there are only single tracks and your mode of transport will be waiting on a siding for another train to pass in the opposite direction. The days of being on time with the train is long gone.I must be the only one to see this was not a well thought out plan.

I thought I made these comments a few days ago in this tread, but must have neglected to hit the "post" button.
I do plan to go to the International Show and would be pleased to meet folks there. I am thinking to be there from the opening bell through Sunday, but would stay longer to meet folks. Traffic will not be bad from my direction, I expect, since folks will be leaving NYC for the long weekend rather than headed toward it. I'll stay with family and park on the Jersey side and take a ferry to Manhattan.

The Margaret L. Wunsch 9-frame exhibit of souvenirs issued during International Philatelic Exhibitions from 1900 to 1940 will be on display at World Stamp Show-NY 2016, May 28–June 4. This exhibit was donated to the APS/APRL in 1988 and is now housed with the Philatelic Collection at the American Philatelic Center. Selected pages from that exhibit may be seen here.

As a Philatelic Exhibition Souvenir collector, I found the display most interesting. I also noted that there were a number of items not connected at all to International Exhibitions, which given the occasion to be displayed, found rather odd. That would certainly lose points in a competitive display.
I still sigh when I think of this upcoming event........and how life has panned out since. I so much wanted to be there. And time is running for any visit to the USA for a Stamp Event.
One day hopefully...........

.....
In fairness to the late Ms. Wunsch, the images and exhibit description were compiled by APS staff and may not represent an accurate depiction of the original exhibit's theme.

Yes, I understand that the APS took a selection for the online Exhibit, and a nice selection it was too. I just wonder if the title or the content has changed.
Would Ms.Wunsch have included such non-Philatelic Exhibition items in any display of hers ? If the APS are loaning this Exhibit to NY2016 then why did they not pick up on it ?
Assuming of course those items are indeed in the Exhibit and not just additions by the APS.
Just seems odd to me although to the general stamp collector at large, nothing out of the ordinary.
