Ran across my first Saar revenue (1-franc Stempelmarke) this week. Pleasant enough, but I have no resources for them. Mine looks to have been used in 1926.

Hello stamp friends. Hope you are all well. I have a question about this 1954 stamp from Saar, Scott 249. I have been told that the building is the courthouse, I assume in Saarbrucken. I have not been able to confirm that with an internet search and the Scott catalog does not say. If it is the courthouse, it would of course fit in my topical collection of stamps portraying them. Thanks for the help!

The stamp shows a view of the former town-hall from 1920.The house served as townhall till 1909,was destroyed by bombing in the II.World War and was rebuild in and after 1947.Today it houses offices,school-rooms and a museum.

Theresa: For several reasons I can't use my scanner, so when I buy something new I send the listing photo to my desktop then upload it here.

Saar Sc/SG 1-17 issued January 30, 1920. Under the 1919 Treaty of Versailles, Saar, previously part of Germany, was administered by the League of Nations until 1935 when a plebiscite would be held. Saar voted to return to Germany.

Saar (French Occupation) Sc155 SG203 issued 1947. After WW2, Saar came under French control. At first the general French Zone stamps were used, then from 1947, specific Saar issues.

Saar (Reunited with Germany) Sc262 SG376 issued 1957. A referendum in 1955 returned Saar to Germany and dedicated stamps continued to be issued until 1959, from which point West German currency and stamps were again used.

For those who may be curious about my current avatar: Adolph Kolping has quite a story to tell, actually: I'm getting to the point in my Saar collection that stamps are missing in my collection are a bit more costly, especially the early semipostals. Gradually over time...

Hi hrdoktorxExcellent image where you can clearly see the 2 types of paper used in the war prints: left - yellowish white paper right - white paper with yellowish chrome Now I can sort my Michel 30 and 50 Pf (Mi 89II and 91II) according to the type of paper - the difference in value is big (from 2 to 120 Euro) Thank you @hrdoktors

Collect maxcards, then you will not have to use a magnifying glass to carefully consider the stamp.
