Mutilated postal stationery page 1 Just love the U7 , that is an absolute classic design. The small diamond Crown on Queen Victoria U8 was fashioned by Garrard of London. Their Hallmark matches this stamp.

U2 is the valuable one of the bunch. The full cover sells at auction for hundreds of dollars. And it is from the First Decimal Issue period. Nice set there frog !

Page two is a pain.Trying to identify correctly six dies on one cut square and three on another with as you guessed very vague descriptions and no illustrations. All to mount mutilated stationery with little to no CV$ someone somewhere someday will ask the obvious "Was he nuts ?" and we all know the answer to that.YES !!!

I just came back from an Auction Sale viewing and there was one lot there that looked like the full set of the cards (U2 was in a separate lot). Postal Stationary heaven, I guess. Here is the description of the lot: Over 600 cards/covers, mostly 1930’s and up incl Special Deliveries, Registered, Yukon & NWT cancels, Postal Stationery incl cards, envelopes, wrappers (from Victorian era), Auxiliary markings incl Returned and DLO mail, etc, condition varies widely, Inspect. Est. 250+

When you consign something to Auction Houses such as Feldman, they insist that every "X" number of lots have a certain value but not all lots. Some state every 3 lots but other places are more or less. Check their Consignment Rules on their Website. There is one place I know that will cherry pick your collection and refuse anything else.
But you have to consider whether their clients will bid (more money) on the lot compared to selling at a smaller Auction House. You also have to consider the higher charges for buying/selling at Feldman.

jimjung The cut squares are just one of many sub collections making up the whole. It's good to have all the diversions to fill in when budget or offerings are slim.I'm quite certain others specialize even more than myself i.e. I only collect one of each perfin others look for all eight positions,i.e. bill stamps and law stamps are far from completion but I have some.my semi airs are also weak along with my five hole perfs. You yourself must have considerable holdings as we did get to see some of your varieties.

My collection is mainly the first issues of Canada stamps, namely the Pence, First Cents, Large and Small Queens. My sub-collections are within this main group of stamps and covers. I also have a small collection of the later Canada stamps up to about 1940.
Outside of that I have a few smaller collections of Worldwide stamps and covers, Assiniboia covers/postmarks, a small bisect cover collection, Worldwide EFO/printing varieties and a GB Stampless Cover collection.

Back to work on these for last two days. The progress is slow but making a dent when I finish I'll post some scans.I have yet to work seriously on obtaining the modern period releases.Canada Post has gone wild on items to sell and it isn't just out of postal necessity.I'm quite surprised that I'm missing a few seemingly common examples and unsurprising missing a few uncommon ones.If anyone has more than a passing knowledge on these I'd be interested in seeing the differences in some of the dies.I have done my best to identify mine but without a comparison to a known example it is sometimes a shot in the dark.

Now if I had found this as a cut square I would be wrong guessing probably a Gb production. But seeing the whole thing we can see it for what it is.

Here is my latest acquisition, thanks to tomiseksj for pointing this out to me! A postcard (Unitrade #UX7c first issued in 1887) sent by the Standard Bank of Canada to the Bank of Hamilton. Through various mergers & acquisitions, both are now known as the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). Mailed from Brighton on July 8, 1889 & received the next day in Hamilton at 3AM! The Brighton cancel is rather poor - light & upside down. The Hamilton is rather nice.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

A bit of Canada Postal history for you. I saw this post on Facebook today by the Toronto Postcard Club: Happy 150th Birthday to the Postcard in Canada! On June 1, 1871, Canada became the first country outside Europe to create an official postal card. These pre-stamped government postal cards are postal stationery (properly speaking), but as people began to print designs, advertisements and illustrations on the backs, the visual delight of the private post cards that were legalized much later (1895) began to take shape. The example below is not mine but is an example of the first one and was mailed in 1871. I have several examples of the 1876 reprint. I am still looking for an example of UX1 mailed from my home county in Nova Scotia.

I believe this is the right thread for this C.O.D. envelope issued by Canada Post although I have not found a catalogue reference for it. I bought it for the South West Port Mouton in Queens County, Nova Scotia postmark. It went from there to the Port Mouton post office before leaving for Oakville, Ontario. Note the warning for a heavy penalty if used to try and escape paying postage.

Today's mail brought me this first issue Canada Post Card (Unitrade UX1). The postmark is a double split ring from my hometown of Liverpool, Nova Scotia dated December 12, 1871. That was the first year this post card was available.
For me it is even more significant because the message is a record of local history. This postcard was mailed to J.N.S. Marshall, a prominent local lawyer, in 1871 from Liverpool. It was sent as notice that the first installment payment for a share of capitol stock of the Bank of Liverpool was due. The bank was formed in 1871. It was signed by John D McClearn who appears to have been the secretary of the new bank. He was another prominent citizen.
Here is a little history about the bank as found on line at a site that sells collectable Canadian currency:
Reference books suggest that the corporate life of The Bank of Liverpool in Nova Scotia was 1871 to 1879. It was actually closed from April 1873 until 1878. It issued bank notes during its first run. All currency should be dated as 1st November 1871 or 1st Nov. 1871. Four, five, ten, and twenty dollar bills were printed by The British American Bank Note Co., Montreal & Ottawa. Signors include Robie S. Sterns, John A. Leslie, Sylvanus Morton, J.F. Forbes, and Thomas Rees. Four and five dollar bills are occasionally available for sale. Ten dollar bills are rare; twenty dollar bills are very rare.
The next photos are sample bills from the bank that are on my wish list but not mine.

I cannot recall if I shared this item before. This type of postal stationary from the Dead Letter Office is not covered by Unitrade but I still found it neat enough to keep. Hopefully Mamma eventually received her letter from one of her children. It dates from Aug.26, 1949.
