5 years ago, when I returned to stamp collecting after a 30+ year absence, I divested myself of most of my childhood collection to 'specialize'. I was going to devote myself strictly to Canada and the United States. Well, never say never. In the last 5 years my collections have come to include Canadian provinces, US territories, the Confederate States, as well as the UN, Vatican City (a recent acquisition), covers from Canada and the US and of course our friends, the cinderella. But I've also often mentioned my 'Just Because' album. Those are things that caught my eye an I've hung onto, just because. Those are the times I log on here and say to you folks, "I don't collect these but..." Here's the latest, found today at my dealer. This is a British stamp less cover from 1840. It caught my eye because of the beautiful cross cancelation. It's just business correspondence. I can't read the flowing script, but on the back is a lovely red wax seal of the Sun Fire Office, complete with sun. What I did notice after I left the store was the date on the cancel April 30, 1840. This is just the day before the penny black was issued, May 1. Perhaps if the sender had waited a day or two, the cover would wear a penny black, be worth thousands of $'s and not make it into my collection. As it is, its worth tens of $'s and here to is. [BROKEN IMAGE LINK(S) REMOVED] Maybe someone can tell me more about the cancel, and what LS means. So, how about you all. Can you say, I don't collect these but... and show us something that's caught you eye and pocketbook, even though it's not in your bailiwick, or wheelhouse, or whatever you choose to call it? Come on! Let's see 'em...

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
A History of British Postmarks, Daniels, 1898, says "L.S." is "doubtless Lombard Street." Sounds like he was surmising...I have a few other sources that might mention it, too. That was just the first one I checked.

Lombard would be my guess.

Continuing on this them of what I DON"T collect, here's another British stampless folded sheet. No contents, so it must have held other sheets at time of mailing. Manchester to Perth Scotland (I've been told N.B. is North Britain, not New Brunswick. Front and back. [BROKEN IMAGE LINK(S) REMOVED] Interesting receiver cancel on the left, assuming that's what it is. Can anyone explain the triangle. Also notice there's no rate marked on it. The penny post at work?
