Possibly directed to Jerry Dave (Philatarium)
I have a Philatelic program that relies on Java, and love my Google Chrome They no longer work together.
Is there a workaround?
Plus Chrome : always defaults me to last page open, this is irritating, how do I set it to open at "search" ?
Is there an old model of Chrome I can download anywhere?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the browser and Java?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the browser and Java? Yes Postmaster, wasted a whole day on this. With the new Chrome 42, it will not allow Java to be loaded. If you go back to an earlier Chrome, (as Jerry suggested) it automatically updates to the new version, so your'e shot. There is a large debate right now, on Google's attempt at doing the right thing for safety and leaving those of us with Java apps, left short. Looks like I'll trade some security, for the benefit of a tiny program, that I use for Album pages.

rod222, It looks like it may still be possible to run Java in Chrome 42, but the workaround will likely be removed by end-of-year.

. . . I have a Philatelic program that relies on Java, and love my Google Chrome They no longer work together. Is there a workaround? . . . rod222I have a similar problem with Chrome and Java -- my credit union's scan deposit function requires Java to operate. I use Chrome for everyday activity and switch to Firefox when I want to deposit a check. And in regard to one of your subsequent questions, you can use the Ghostery plug-in with Firefox.

Hi Rodney I did not suggest anything, I just got here I am not getting any Java problems, yet. Anyways, I did find this site: www.donnaforex.com/index.php?topic=14819.0Once at the site find the word source: and click on the link Having trouble accessing Java using Google Chrome? Here is the fix for the problem (Note: I had to do it this way since the final link did not work with the insert link)The trouble I am having is when I have to read a PDF in Chrome. I get a Plug-In not supported error for the PDF Reader. I have to check for a procedure to fix that one. As I said in another post, GOOGLE Chrome is shooting themselves in the foot with the latest go around of changes. I guess I am going to have to leave the CHROME world and go to FireFox, which I am not too thrilled about. Chrome has a few plug-ins that I like. Jerry B

I was referring to an earlier post of yours re Java. (It may have been a personal email) Sit Rep Update. Back with Chrome 1 . After new version of Chrome installed, computer went into meltdown I could not access a program (Java) which I had used for years "svchost.exe" was in overdrive, I had CPU usage at 99% computer was slow, and I had a permanent egg timer icon adjacent to my pointer. After Postmaster's advice, I tried Firefox (that was worse) very slow internet I closed down, rebooted, took off Chrome, Firefox, and my java program and binned them. Fresh install of Chrome, and my program. Everything was fast, my program would not load "Unable to access jarfile" As a workaround I loaded the program using a link direct to the jarfile through its native folder It works, but without pretty Icon Link. Thanks all for assistance.

Hi Rodney Glad it now works?? What pretty Icon? Ahh, finally a closet IT person Jerry B When the java program installs, Jerry, a link Icon is placed on the desktop (A little stamp) When one clicks the icon, "unable to access jarfile" and you have to abort With my workaround, now I have the Java Cup of coffee, as my icon. "Closet IT person"? I think not. Imagine, if you will, a Monkey, blindfolded, wearing a pair of welding gloves. That's how I feel working on computers, I dislike it intensely. That said, Win7 has been very stable up until now.

My computing is made up of intuitive key strokes, Qwerty becomes second nature, as did my Stamp Icon, Chrome nicked it. I don't like software that tells me how I should do things. or change things, without so much as a "by your leave"......They can naff off. No earth shattering problem, just irritating. I had no idea of the Java / Coffee relationship, and Indonesia is a close neighbour. Thanks for that. Update: Properties / change icon, I have my little stamp back

Hi Rodney See, it's not so hard That is why they used a cup of coffee as an icon. You do not hear the expression very much anymore. On my machine I made a folder called My Icons and I put general purpose icons in there so I know where they are all the time. Also, there are free and online programs to extract an icon(s) from an application. Some favorite Icon sites that I use: www.iconsdb.com/www.fatcow.com/free-iconswww.freeiconsdownload.com/Jerry B
