Ireland is in the process of spending 27million euros on a postcode system. Seemed a couple of chaps decided that its not needed.

At least they are getting with it. Costa Rica doesn't even have addresses. When we were in San Jose the "address" of our hotel was: Go North to Sabana Park. On the left street go 200 meters to the drug store. Hotel xxxx is across the street. Here's a couple of actual hotel addresses:
50m este 50m sur del Colegio de Medicos, Sabana Sur, San Jose, San Jose, 10108 Costa Rica. Ave 1, Calles 11 y 15, 50m oeste del costado sur de TSE, San Jose, San Jose, Costa Rica
We were told (excuse me, my wife was told in Spanish) that the government hired a Colombian consulting firm, twice, to lay out postal zones and addresses. The Costa Rican people sent them home because they did not want it. We sent a letter to someone we met and the address was like those above.

The town I grew up in Ireland was a small village 200 people but the township was about 1500 people in total. Mail would be address Oldtown Co Dublin Ireland , we had many people with the same name delivering mail was a art. The postman would always get the bills dilvered on time, lots of joe Murphy's and paddy rooneys
