Italy ~ Offices Abroad~ Aegean Islands~ Rhodes (Rodi) Just a random selection, of stamps that have come to visit me, lonely, trapped amongst more powerful issuing nations. They are now amongst like friends. Thematic : Swords and knives on stamps.

What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many, many catalogues ....

I was very surprised to find these while digging through the stacks a while back. I have almost nothing from Rhodes so it's always a shock to come across them. These are parcel post stamps from 1934, and they illustrate one of my complaints about the Scott catalogue listings. These stamps were originally part of a pair and were used by affixing one half to the parcel's waybill and the other half to the sender's receipt, so truly used copies will never have both halves. But Scott prices them as complete pairs for both mint and used copies. GRRRR ... And catalogue value for separated used stamps? 20 cents, minimum value, as with all other values in the set of 11 pairs. I think I can probably add these to the list of "minimum catalogue value stamps I doubt I'll ever come across". Ryan

As you, I could not see how that would occur (a used brace of stamps) I remember is was so long ago, it was on Newsgroups. Anyhow, it transpired the fellow I was talking with, was an Italian specialist, and he posted images on cjoint of used pairs, postmarked (I probably still have the image in my database) I still maintain our position, I reckon used, unseparated pairs would be just "favour cancels" and hence, not really, really, the right thing...................... Perhaps Scott lists the price for the pair, (intending to be assumed as separated?) Update: To defeat my own argument, here is the scan he sent me.... used on piece, postmarked as pairs
