What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

I was rooting through more of my piles of stuff, re-sorting stamps in my "yet to soak" pile again (boy, I sure spend a lot of time re-sorting stuff that has already been sorted) and I came across this one. It has a nasty scuff on the upper right, oh well. I was still happy to see the stamp, however, because I don't recall having any other "Govt. Parcels" stamps. So, I looked it up in my Scott catalogue - yikes, no wonder I don't see this every day in a generic pile of kiloware! The nasty scuff will take a big bite out of any potential value, but that's OK for me, I'm still happy to come across spacefillers for stamps I wouldn't otherwise see unless I'm specifically trying to buy them. Value in my old 2008 catalogue, by the way, was $200. I scanned the overprint at 1200 dpi and it looks pretty good to me - certainly it's typographed, there is the typical halo of darker, thicker ink that forms around the edge of the letters. Comparing my overprint to the genuine one shown on stampforgeries.com (a fine site run by TSF member classicalstamps ) looks good, too - the spacing between the tops of the "O" and "V" is quite a bit different on the genuine overprint and my copy appears to match. I'm sure there are many other forgeries out there beyond just the Fornier shown on the website so I can't be certain without more study, but it seems OK to me. Ryan

Ryan With such a strong Irish Parcel strike (Dublin) that immediately (to me) signals genuine.

Gibbons gives these a 100% premium for well centered and lightly used, and although that is a strong cancel, it is not too bad for what you often see on these. I don't know how light it has to be for Gibbons to consider it light. The scuff and the faded vignette hit the CV pretty hard but it is nevertheless a nice space to fill.
To the extent that it is even possible to say this from a scan, it looks like the cancel is over the overprint. Especially over the "V". It will probably be more obvious one way or the other in person. For anyone else looking at theirs, the dot comes and goes, and moves around a bit on these. Gibbons lists the positions of the varieties.

To me also, the postmark appears to be on top of the overprint. I would say that is most important, especially being a known postmark.
