To make scads of money, Tuvalu sent out scads of SPECIMEN overprints, of which I have a number of them. To me, they are worthless pieces of paper. For the numbers disseminated, that's probably their worth nowadays too!

From September 1979 to April 1986, Barcelona's Stamp and Coin Traders Guild, issued a series of 50 cinderella sheets with the title "Hisròria de Catalunya" (Catalonia's History) that were sold at many events. The caption was "For philately enhancement" and the value was in pessetes (our currency up to 2001). A number of these sheets bear the word "mostra" (Catalan for "specimen"). I've got some of them. These, were issued on April/May 1980 for Barcelona's Car show and deal with Iberian and Greek times.

I didn't shred these like I did the LOTW's. Tuvalu's Handicrafts definitive issue from 1983 Scott #183-195. Mounted in 1984 and stilll post office fresh after all these years! I liked the black quadrilled album pages to make the stamps pop, with black Hawid mounts. I suppose I paid for these stamps. But I couldn't understand why they sent these out, other than a money grab to triple their revenues, since they also sold "OFFICIAL" stamps. I have a number of other specimen & official issues.

Sorry for bad picture. One on the left says 'Noneme' which translates to 'Not Issued' / (Specimen)

Here is another for the set; this one being a Japanese Specimen or 'Mihon',
Japan issue of 1984 (Scott n.º 1554) to commemorate the launching of the icebreaker - 'Shirase'
If any wants to know why this particular stamp found its way into my album pages, just ask...
Happy collecting!
