Yes, most of us may know that Lundy is off the beaten track, sitting in the middle of UK's Bristol Channel and that it may have been the world's first real local post. But this thread is about something else altogether. This thread is about those items you would never be able to use on the 'M.S. Oldenberg' or on an Atlantic Coast Air service flight to Barnstable. Bogus, Proofs, Made-for-Collectors sheets, Alternative and fantasy. Even Ephemera is welcome....in fact anything that is oddball or unusual. No locals allowed here !! Dig deep into your collections and look for that strange item marked.......Lundy !!
I'll start it off with these 'extra Flagstaff' variety blocks of 4 !
Off to look in that bottom drawer..........

The 'Victory' series of 1942 consisted of 8 regular Puffin definitives, including Nos.1-5 overprinted with a 'Plane' and 'V'. The overprints were used in different colours and most colours exist on all values [½ puffin to 12 puffins].
The item below is a Proof overprint in Black on Medium card. The same colour overprint exists on at least 2 other coloured cards/papers.

Below are 3 proof sheetlets of the 1937 Lundy and Atlantic Air Services issue. These are on different colour papers in Violet, Maroon and Black, without text/inscriptions. They are often labelled 'Rigby Hall Proofs' after T. Rigby-Hall who was appointed by the Island owner [Harman] to run a Philatelic Bureau from mainland Britain during the war years [1941-45]. It is possible that these proofs were made for collectors during the short life of the Bureau, AFTER the issue !!
More research afoot.

The 3 sheets below are bogus. The corner letters tell me that they were a bit of fun for a well-known Lundy enthusiast !! The blue sheets are not only in different shades but one is the 'later' example with white lines !!

In the unreal world of Fantasy stamps I found these 2 'spoof proofs'. Printed not by De La Rue or Perkins Bacon but by Gerald King of Suffolk and signed by him.
Printed onto thick card I give you a couple of nice Lundy wannabees !!

I picked up a small but quite stunning collection of Alternative Lundy whilst in the UK recently. Over 35 'Proof' sheets and 150 'stamps' in various formats. I don't really collect these but they looked like fun. Here are a couple to go with those shown earlier....Mr.King has a lot to answer for !

The following 2 sheets came from the same source and are signed by Gerald King. I know nothing about them but have just seen one for sale at a silly price. I am definitely in the wrong trade !!

Well, we've had some unusual Canadian Fantasies that turned out to be Great Britain Philatelic Congress items and now we have some Congress items that, er......are not Congress items !!
There was no Congress during the war years but it seems all went on as normal on someone's Lundy Island !!

The Lundy Collectors Club are a long-Established club that started out in the USA. In 1996 they moved their base to the UK (most likely due to membership numbers) and now total 130+ members. They meet twice a year and the summer meeting is preceded by a visit to the Island. Occasionally, longer visits are made and meetings held on Lundy itself. Special souvenirs have been produced both for meetings and to commemorate their attendance at Stamp Exhibitions and other events. I have chosen two below..........there may well be others to post in the not-too-distant future !!

Using up remainders of the Lundy 'Europa' issue from 1962, the Lundy Collectors Club overprinted the labels for a souvenir of their meeting at Stampex (London) in 1988. This may, or may not, have already been seen in the Philatelic Exhibitions-Great Britain thread.

This sheet could well be mistaken for being part of Gerald King's Alternative Lundy, some of which has been shown in previous posts. But I believe this is another example of a souvenir from a Lundy Collectors Club meeting. Date unknown as yet. I stand corrected if more info should come to light !!

Here's how Lundy may have commemorated the Philatelic War Fund of 1916. I wonder if a few of those Puffins were auctioned off ?? Far below the Puffins is an example of the unissued War Fund label by Perkins Bacon (just for comparison!). The design was reproduced on the front cover of two auction catalogues of that year also produced by Perkins Bacon. The labels, on thin card, are all signed on the reverse by Gerald King. Londonbus1

I live in North Devon (Barnstaple) and see the island of Lundy on a regular basis whilst driving locally. Lovely to see some Lundy Stamps. Have only been to the Island once nearly 40 years ago when I was 5! Keep meaning to go back but never quite get there. If there is anything people are looking for from Lundy there are a couple of antique shops with stamp collections. Please feel free to ask and I will keep a look out on my travels. Sarah

Many thanks to sarah for her kind offer in the previous post. To celebrate, here is a block of telegraph stamps used on Lundy during the time of Queen Victoria. From the look of the values, they had tons of money on the small Island in those days !! Well, it's all good fun isn't it. Isn't it ?

Absolutely !!
In fact, nothing has much credibility in this topic. I guess it's hard to get 'off the beaten track' in Lundy, given that it's so small an Island. So only here at The Stamp Forum can we have a bit of fun about this amazing place.
Three cheers for Puffins.........

Yes, guys ( JeffS & Londonbus1 ), I already know that the Lundy Telegraphs issues are fantasies/bogus. I just thought that the way that the perforations were done was unusual, and as the stamps are of this fantasy type, I will then assume that this was done just to create another variety for collectors. I will delete my earlier post, as it was apparently pointless to have made it in the first place.

Beryllium GuyNot all Lundy stamps are Fantasies. They were, so they say, the world's first Official Local post. Only in this thread are they a bit silly.......much like Monty Python !! I believe they were the first Local Post in the UK at the very least. I miss your deleted post. Lundybus1

I also collect coins and Lundy produced a set of coins that were barred as they did not have the Queens head! Lundy is the only island in the Uk that produced stamped FDC on 2nd June as the rest of the country was declared a bank holiday and the postal marks are from the 3rd June.

A new member to this forum, and my first foray into a real post. I purchased this from a local dealer, with no idea if real or not. It came with a card which said that this was a proof sheet showing the final design, colours, and postmark as adopted for the final stamps. It also claims that only one thousand were issued, but it may be only one thousand with the official cancellation. In any case, this black and white proof is added for your comments.
