Considering putting together a quick topical exhibit for my clubs upcoming bourse. But I only have a few weeks, so this'll be interesting. Picked up these covers this past weekend to supplement my 'accumulation'.
  Let's see what sort of 'exhibit' we can get going here. I know there'll be lots! |

I do love that parcel post too! Anyho, on a visit on my lunch hour, to a used book store around the corner from work, I went looking for some literature on railroads for this possible train topical exhibit, mentioned above. Found a couple including this. Now it's not a philatelic book, so I won't post it on the 'What's in your Libraray' thread, but I'll post it here. it contains histories and routes of more than 160 North American Railroads. That should come in handing when trying to decipher those peak RPO cancels.
 ...oh, and it IS going in my philatelic library anyway. It will be well used. |

I'm currently sorting through a pile of Channel Islands stamps so there will be a few postings made to show some topicals that fit into existing threads. In 1988, the Isle of Man issued a set of 16 definitives showing trains and trams. I have a number of them but I'm sure I'm missing some as well. A couple of years later, the set was expanded with another 4 values including a horse-drawn tram stamp! No horses here, oh well.  Ryan |

And here's one. A first day of issue postcard for the 60th anniversary of the WWI armistice featuring the rail car where the paper was signed. I understand the allies in WWII made the Germans sign that treaty in the same railway car, just to rub it in. Besides the stamp there's a large 'silk' sticker, which I guess could be considered a cinderella.
I don't know who's signature that is on the card, but it appears to be real, signed in a felt marker. The ends of the lines show a heavier laying on of ink, as would happen when the pen stops and starts. |

This 10c rose carmine & black stamp showing the Borneo Railway - 1902 was issued November 1, 1956 (Scott 276) as the lowest denomination in a set of 4 stamps commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Chartered Company of North Borneo.  |

The first two values of a four stamp set issued by Bulgaria on April 26, 1939 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Bulgarian State Railways: the 1 lev yellow green (Scott 346) depicts an early locomotive and the 2 lev copper brown (Scott 347) a modern one. |

Those are beauty Bulgarians, Steve. Don't have those for my exhibit, but have more than enough to put on a bit of a show. That said, can anyone give me a date of issue on these Danish State Railway stamp. Can't find it in Scotts. Found a few for sale on the inter web, but no extra information. I'm guessing 1940s, but I've been known to be wrong.

Picked up these Mexican parcel post stamps to add to my train exhibit. Did some shifting around and made space for the bottom two.
 Top two issued in 1941, the bottom in 1951. Also, the bottom stamp is designed by my favourite Mexican stamp designer/artist Eppens |

Know the locomotive style well, (I used to sell magazines on the train platform before school, between Adelaide and Gawler) Not heard of the trade train before. Apparently they had one also in 1951. |

Not sure if there were any train stamps 1979 - 1989 Bas.
The 1979 set were woeful, dreadful print quality, probably better off not having them on.

Great purchase James......I have a pair of heavy binders 'History of Railways' purchased for the amazing sum of $2 from a thrift shop. Almost 500 pages of information on world railways inc USA. It was a British monthly magazine of 24 issues that eventually filled the 2 binders. Full of marvellous beasts belching black smoke. The Rio Grande - Californian Zephyr is pictured there in yellow. |

Brought a box full of US stamps home from my club last night to sort through. Found this cute little cover. I assume "The Perf Gauge" is a publication, but couldn't find it with a quick google search. Will look harder later.
