tele1962 , While members here are always helpful, it doesn't make sense for you to ask others what you should collect. Thank you for your reply. I was thinking that the good members here have more experience than me and not knowing much about what to collect asked the question as it's a bit of a minefield to wade through. The sense being that I don't fall down some rabbit hole that any newbie might encounter by not asking questions. But thank you again for your comment. Warmest regards Barry.

Many positive comments from our members, but most of all did have stamps before starting collecting - At 12, my father gave me all Scott International Albums and Scott catalogs (cheap at the time) and I started with many pauses due to my studies, etc etc. Those who start from scratch need at least 1 choice of Cats - You, living in the UK, would probably prefer SG (Stanly Gibbons) - Some favour Colnect ( not my catalog but useful) and the ranting goes on.......René

tele1962 I have re-read all your posts and answers since you put up your Intro Post (#1). It is evident as you say that you are a newbie (100%). As a suggestion, I would recommend that you use your postings to ask specific questions about "stamping" and stay away from naming Countries you are looking at. Ask members on how 1) to start a stamp collection without spending your allowance 2) if you are into buying, ask what is reasonable 3) What catalogs do you need (you are in the UK) 4) other questions related to stamps in general.... You will meet some pretty sharp members in this FORUM and I hope they will be good to you - if this does not work at your satisfaction, maybe you are at the wrong place but I would be surprised Happy stamping - René btw you are not stuck on the Greenland thread - read other general threads - plenty of stuff where you can post into other threads

Greenland is a great country to collect. Lots of interesting designs and popular too with thematics like flora, fauna, fish, culture, hunting, landscapes, aircraft, ships, costumes etc and most stamps from 1946 – 2000 are quite affordable. More recent stamps can be more expensive, especially as the cost of postage and shipping continues to rise. They just had a price increase this year I think, as did Denmark. Prior to 1938, and the earlier parcel post issues of 1905, domestic mail sent within Greenland can unfortunately only be dated if the contents of a letter are included and the sender thought to add a date by hand at the time because mail under 10kg was sent FREE of charge! It could also be handed over to ship captains for transport up or down the coast. As far as I know, Greenlandic postmarks only came into being during the twentieth century. Not sure if foreign mail was charged for, but that too would have been handed to generous sea captains for transport back to Europe, etc.
In any case, good luck with your collection!
