A. KING GEORGE V DESIGN — 1914-18 WAR The design was adapted from the die for the unissued 2d recess stamp which was proposed for issue as part of a new set to replace the Kangaroo series. The Id King and the 6d Kookaburra were the only ones which were actually issued. Two values were issued as War Savings stamps, 6d blue and 2/6d claret, and these were first recorded in "The Australian Stamp Journal" of l0th May 1917, although they had been issued about two years earlier. The stamps were watermarked with the Crown over A design of wnat we now Know as the second or Georgian type, as used in the then current postage stamps. The sheets comprised 120 stamps, in one unbroken pane of twelve horizontal rows of ten stamps, and because of the lack of pane arrangement, the paper tor the Georgian revenues could not be used. It is interesting to note that the latter die III stamps of King George V were printed on the same paper, which has come to be known as the "War Savings" paper The first printing of the War Savings stamps was perf 11 line, while the later printings were perf. 14.2 line, which is the same gauge as appeared on those postage stamps which were perforate on the line machine. As far as the 2/6d value is concerned, I have not seen it perfed 14.2 line, although I believe it has been recovered. More to follow....

Not that expensive roos, can be had occaisionally my way, for about $6 each. The plane is a Boulton-Paul Defiant not a Spitfire. The War savings booklets are more expensive, around $200

Wiki :
The Boulton Paul Defiant was a British interceptor aircraft that served with the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War. The Defiant was designed and built by Boulton Paul Aircraft as a "turret fighter", without any forward-firing guns. It was a contemporary of the Royal Navy's Blackburn Roc. The concept of a turret fighter related directly to the successful First World War-era Bristol F.2 Fighter. In practice, the Defiant was found to be reasonably effective as a bomber–destroyer, but vulnerable to the Luftwaffe's more agile, single-seat Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighters. Lack of forward armament proved to be a major weakness in daylight combat and its potential was only realized when it switched to night combat.[1] It was supplanted in the night fighter role by the Bristol Beaufighter and de Havilland Mosquito. The Defiant found use in gunnery training, target towing, electronic countermeasures (ECM) and air-sea rescue. Among RAF pilots, it had the nickname "Daffy", probably a diminutive of the word "Defiant".

Interesting fighter plane info Rod
That side face image of King George V was very popular throughout the commonwealth so it seems to me.

Tough to hazard a guess without a good picture, I would personally email Ian Boulton at Ace Stamp Auctions Perth Western Australia, I have seen booklets at bourses fro $60 -$120 and that was some years ago. Keep your eyes peeled on Ebay, perhaps save a search for these when they arrive. All will depend on the genuineness of the article.
