In light of the new government which was sworn in today in Ottawa, and in the hopes of turning around almost 10 years of divisiveness, negativity and backward thinking regarding refugees, climate change, science in general, veterans, and of course, home mail delivery, I thought I'd post these labels my daughter sent me from St. John's NFLD (she's there for a year as artist in residence at a fine art print studio!). Though not cinderellas - they are definitely not disguising themselves as postage stamps - I thought they were clever, well produced and quite effective.
Please note, this post was NOT intended to start a political discussion. Lets just see where the next few years takes us, shall we?

There are of course two sides to every story. Or four sides, as the case may be - Calgary is awash with petitions at the moment regarding Harper. One guy thought Harper to be a fine fellow so he started an online petition requesting a name change for the Calgary International Airport - he wants it to be named the Stephen J. Harper International Airport. Another thought that to be a bad idea and started a petition to stop any name change. A wag showed up and decided that the East Calgary Landfill would be a more appropriate target for a name change to honour PM Harper, so up went another petition. And another wag entered the fray and started a petition requesting a name change for Stephen Harper - he wants Harper's new name to be "Calgary International Airport". ha ha

Why are they not Cinderellas ? They look like Propaganda items to my eyes....or am I missing something ?
For the benefit of those who don't have a clue who Harper is, how about some background history

Yes Canada has had a big swing around in regards to the way people voted in this last election.
I do want to inform all members that this thread shall stay on topic and not go into a political debate.
It is nice to see political labels gives a little taste of social history. I like the way these look similar to ww2 labels.
For those that don't know, Canada just had a new Prime Minister sworn in. He is Justin Trudeau The eldest son of Pierre Trudeau who was PM for over a decade. Justin was born while his father was PM
Trudeau won the leadership of the Liberal Party in April 2013, and went on to lead his party to victory in the 2015 federal election, moving the third-placed Liberals from 36 seats to 184 seats, the largest-ever numerical increase by a party in a Canadian election.
So there you go a little background.
But please if any one starts a political debate I will wear the admin hat and lock thread.

Hmm. my response to the Bus' comment about my comment about these not being cinderellas is gone, but no worries. I didn't consider them cindy's because, by definition, I believe, a cinderella is a label/seal/whatever which looks like a postage stamp but isn't. Pretty general I suppose. Yes, I do agree with His Bus-ness that these would be propaganda labels, but they are very large and imperforated (ya, I know stamps can be imperforated.) Guess I'm digging myself into some kind of hole here, so I'll stop.
I think there are only 3 labels in this set, but I'll keep my eyes open for others.
thanks
