It is with great sadness that I make this post.
Bill Weiss has passed away. He made many great contributions to philately, both in terms of knowledge and through his expertizing business. He was greatly missed after his retirement, and even more so now.

Always sad to hear new like this. Never dealt with the gent, but certainly knew of his reputation. A loss, certainly.

Sad, indeed. He was genuinely interested in advancing philately.

I don't lurk around other forums too often, once in a long while I might pop in. So, I'm familiar with Bill from his presence on other sites and have always been impressed with his knowledge and his willingness to pass it on. In the same regard, I noticed in this month's APS journal (thanks tomiseksj for always putting up a post each month) that Jay Carrigan also passed away recently. Jay was similarly knowledgeable in his fields and has been a presence on the internet since before my earliest stumblings on chat forums (more specifically, the old USENET alt.rec.collecting.stamps group). I have since found threads on other forums about Jay's passing but for any others like me who don't get around often enough, this may be the first they've heard of it. Ryan

Ryan That is sad, Jay was a font of knowledge, helped me with my first bumblings in stamp collecting, I have lots of his advice saved. He introduced me to the phrase "Mutilated Stationery" I met him on RCSD ( Recreation, Collecting, Stamps, Discuss) what? 15 years ago. He was a master of the intricacies of the Yugoslav catalogue. Thanks for letting us know Ryan.

Good collectors seem to be passing way too fast...
Also Francis Kiddle (a name all cinderella stamp collectors worldwide will recognize) passed away only few weeks back.

Mr. Kiddle wrote the famous Delandres Cinderella Catalogues I believe. (alas, I have never seen them) 'Tis a changing of the guard sadly, Thanks for letting us know.

May he Rest In Peace. Bought this years ago off eBay. Never met but I believe I spoke to him several times on another board. Great knowledge on US Stamps and very nice person. I'm sure he will be missed greatly.

Rod, it was Francis' brother Charles who co-authored the Delandre catalogues but Francis was a giant in the Cinderella world and very knowledgable. I enjoyed his columns in Stamp magazine which he wrote with his brother. I met him briefly during the festival of Stamps in 2010 in London. As a member of the CSC in the UK he was in everyone's thoughts during the auction meet in London recently. Sad. By the way, the Delandre catalogues are still available from the CSC and when I can I will be ordering them.
