Hello all,
I am a novice stamp collector from the US. Recently entered into stamp collecting after many years collecting sports cards. I have an interest in the Classics, mostly US but I have obtained some old worldwide issues. I have been lurking in this forum for a couple months now, and have received a much appreciated education. I have decided to join in.

FirstFrog : I have been buying stamps in 'lots' and at this time looking to purchase those that are included with Vario Pages. I then use the pages for the stamps I am collecting. I have also picked up 100 used manila-style stock pages to store some world and duplicates. I also have a few albums. The albums appear to be( KA 'shooting star symbol' BE ). I have been putting my older world stamps that I plan to keep in those. I believe my storage supplies are more expensive then my stamps.. LOL

John,Sounds like you have a plan.Myself been the whole circuit, started with an old Cornet world wide then Minkus BNA now quadrille pages.Kind of like starting over but just the way it worked out.I know what you mean about pages getting expensive.Wait til you get involved with mounts.A big factor in my decision to go to blank pages was I end up throwing out the printed pages when I get used, mint and blocks all fighting for that one little space. Then I got rather into certain issues and even more space was needed. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Firstfrog: I was considering going with blank pages and mounts. I have picked up an acid free art sketch book. Now the cover page isn't all that attractive but I like the thicker page stock and was considering putting my older WW stamps in it. Since they are blank pages I can display them however I wish. As for the mounts, I dont know if my collection is worth the expense. I may just use hinges. But that's going to be a winter project....if i get to it... I have 'big' plans but it never fails that something else will need to be addressed (ie.. roof shingles blow off : car maintenance etc...) before I relax and organize my collection...

John, A relatively inexpensive near-term solution for your worldwide collection would be to purchase a set of Steiner album pages, allowing you to print only what you need and think through your long-term storage options. Member rod222 has posted a number of examples of stamps mounted on the Steiner pages. Regarding those manila stock pages, I consider them a godsend when identifying large numbers of stamps. After sorting by country, I'll identify the stamp(s), place it in the page, and write the catalog number in pencil underneath it. Once finished, I can easily move the stamps to their final resting place or, in many instances, leave them in the pages with the rest of my duplicates.
