Thanks @wert
mine is definitely a reproduction or forgery- I n looking at your post, I see there's also a cheek line on mine that isn't on the original in addition to a few more differences

stainlessb - I know nothing about early Spain or its forgeries, but the details are surprisingly good for a forgery. IMO

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Working through an old world wide collection and today I am in Spain. The previous owner had added an extra sheet for an abundance of classic stamps and revenues. I almost flipped past them as I have a lot of this material already. On second thought I decided to give them a go but not paying much attention for varieties. I have already found a handful I did not have. There are some Carlist noted which I really knew nothing about. The surprise is the stamp in the last photo. I think I will keep checking after striking a bit of success. This Scott 65 appears mint with good borders but no glue. It is brown on greenish paper. It has a pretty high catalogue value for used and mint. Scott makes no reference to forgeries so I am feeling comfortable that it is genuine.

Many thanks for your post, Hugh ( hdm1950). Sorry to be the one to have to tell you this, but all of the early stamps of Spain have been heavily forged, whether specifically noted in the Scott Catalogue or not. I would strongly suggest that you have a look at this website: stampforgeries.blogspot.com/2022/11/spain-1864.htmlOnce you have had a look, it would be great to hear your findings. Sincere wishes for good luck! I hope yours turns out to be genuine.

I don't collect Spain, but I've had a number of friends (sadly, gone) who did it and have a little knowledge on Spanish classical issues. They're a forgeries' mine-field, specially the expenssive stamps and carlist issues, like your top-right. So, I fully agree with Chris (Berylium) view.

I may not be correct, but I believe many of the early forgeries were contemporary to defraud the post which is why Spain kept changing the design and incorporating the year date more or less every year or so .

Many thanks for your post, Hugh ( hdm1950 ). Sincere wishes for good luck! I hope yours turns out to be genuine. Thanks for the info Chris ( Beryllium Guy ). I am not surprised about the forgeries. This collection is free to me to pick what I want before my friend sells the lot in his weekly online estate auction. I did find there was already one Carlist in my own collection but it was a different reprint from the ones shown in my post. I have decided to pull the Carlist ones from these pages just for interest sake. I never plan to specialize in Spain but do add to my world wide when I get job lots like these to go through. The Scott 65 printed on the greenish paper does look almost too good to be genuine but when looking at the forgery link I am not sure now. The price was right so I am not about to have it certified. My first picture posted was with my iPhone. I scanned it this morning at 600 dpi for a different perspective. no matter what it is a pretty stamp.

I guess they don't come more CLASSIC than 1850 ! Here is may page of Spain Nos. 1 The Cancel is called a SPIDER (Sp Arana) and is supposed to frame the Queen not deface her. Usually in Black. Red and Blue are less common Interesting note on scarcity and market value if we compare the GB Penny Black and the Isabella 6 quartos . The respective printings are 64,000,000 and 6,000,000 The penny black therefore is 10 times more common than the 6Quartos However Current prices for 4 margin examples are £100 for Penny Black V £ 10 for a decent 6 Quartos ! Should be the other way round for scarcity, but I guess more folks want a Penny Black as world's No1 so the price is hiked ! [
