I have > 400,000 stamp images on my external Hard Disk. Time to prepare for Hard Disk failure, back up regime. (Prompted by Steve's mishap)
Prior to this I was using MS "Copy" via USB 3 (3-4 hours)
I am going this route, and welcome any commentary.
Using Microsoft "Sync Toy" for incremental backups. (FREE) (Quoted photographer: "I have 700Gb of photos and the synct toy takes around 15 minutes to refresh all altered files")
Paragon for HDD cloning / imaging to 2Tb external HDD ($49) (Copies entire computer including operating system)

Rod, my friend, Happy New Year.
I have been using MS Sync Toy and a portable drive for my work computer for years. It works GREAT and I definitely recommend it. The only drawback is that it only works when you remember to do it (as opposed to a automatic or timed backup).
As you say, after the initial backup, it only syncs updated/changed files.

Kirk Right! that's great to have a recommendation supported, thanks Kirk. Confidence rising. ...and a very safe and pleasurable 2016 to you, my friend.

My two cents...
Partition your hard drive and leave the operating system in a relatively small C partition. Put your data (images) in a D partition, and image that. This partition can be restored to any computer with any operating system.
A raid setup is cheap these days, too. I set my sync to external hard drives to occur at 2am. As long as the sync is a one-way update from the main partition to the external, you can swap out the externals and keep one in a separate location. This can be accomplished with a hardware or a software solution.
