Hi everyone, I'm Mark and I'm from Saskatchewan, Canada. Thanks for letting me in. I collected stamps as a kid (might even have a scout badge for it somewhere) but like most kids I set it aside to do other things. School, girls, golf and work in my case. When my son was born I decided to quit the golfing so I had more time at home. I needed a hobby though and stumbled across my old red Traveller album. Searched the Internet to see if anyone still collected stamps and I found this brand new group called Stamporama and I was hooked for good! My collecting time has ebbed and flowed as the kids grew, work got busy, I started my own business, etc. I seem to drift off for a year or more then I relapse and start going to club meetings and working on my stamps. Other times I'm just hanging around the forums and reading Linns or Canadian Stamp News. My son just left for an early morning University class a few minutes ago and I realized it's been 20 years since I rediscovered the hobby. Craziness. But I still feel like I'm learning all the time. In my mind I'm a general collector and I spend most of my time reading and re-reading sites like Filling Spaces, SCB and Big Blue 1840-1940. My passion is the early issues through about 1960. I'd like to form a representative worldwide collection spanning from 1900 - 1960 or so, to cross both world wars, the 5 British reigns and the first African independence issues. But my main focus over the years has been Scandinavian stamps, especially Sweden. Go figure. Anyway, I was reading the complete Filling Spaces blog back to front and saw a link to the forum and thought I'd check it out. I already see a few familiar faces. I'm looking forward to spending more time here. Mark

Welcome. You'll probably recognize a bunch of people here.
Your interests are shared by a number of other members, so you should have plenty to see and, hopefully, share.

madbaker Welcome Mark, trust you shall enjoy the Forum. We ask you when posting scans, to try your best in posting to appropriate Threads found in the "Home" link. Try to avoid "What's this" or "Look what I've got" We are attempting to provide a searchable Library and assistance in countries where members spend valuable time Identifying the lesser known Any short text you add, will be appreciated like Scott number or stamp topic. It then pops up in Google and attracts members and solutions. You will be an honorary Librarian Cheers

Thanks for popping in Mark. My sister is the Scandinavian collector in my family. Maybe one day I'll convince her to come and share time with us here. Mom and her started world wide collecting about twenty five years ago, before that Mom had already had over sixty years into her U.S. collection. I'm into BNA so a well rounded family of stamp nuts. We hope you will share some scans of your collection. We never tire of looking at stamps here and all levels of collectors are present. Welcome !

Hi again. So here's two quick newbie questions:
- where's the preferred place to post questions about how you all use the forums? There seems to be a lot of work done on organizing the forum, so I don't want to be posting original content in the wrong place.
- Here's a specific one: I see the forum for Sweden and the thread called "Sweden: Stamps". If I want to share some of my album pages, should I be adding to that thread or is that considered "hijacking"
Some forums have threads by collector "ie, Mark's Collection" so I thought I'd ask first.

Mark Your first guess is correct add to threads under Sweden so in the future anyone searching for info may find them. If yours are very specific you may want to start new thread with Title relating to it's catalog number. We are trying to set up the forum so it can be a reference for those that follow. The marked goal of sharing information and knowledge. I'm sure others can also be of assistance.

madbaker Quite the opposite Sweden : Stamps is the parent folder, we would wish you add your material here, if possible. Any new member, interested in Sweden will naturally be guided to this thread, which will eventually make a composite of the Sweden discipline. As you Post in that thread, certainly add text in the post that may assist you in reference You can type say "Mark's page ***" etc, hopefully with some text reference to the material, so we can search the forum for it. eg: (Under Sweden : Stamps ) Mark's Page, Sweden Coil Stamps 1985 etc etc. You have won our "Librarian of the week award" Thanks for asking, you have insight in what we wish to achieve You have won a 1920 Turkey Page of Stamps (CV circa $25) I cannot post an image Photobucket has been down for 24 hrs Please Pers message me with a suitable address, and I'll mail them (If you want them)

lol. I'm 95% certain that if you ask for the baker you'll find me for sure. @firstfrog: I'm off on a big trip in a week so am conserving pennies, but our show is only once per year, so I have to buy something. It's the only chance I get to see stamps before I buy them. And over the years I've gotten to know one of the dealers a bit so we can have a chat and catch up with each other. Stamp collecting can be solitary, the internet helps a lot, but there's something to be said for the old fashioned stamp show!

I hear ya Mark. My "adopted" son bought us tickets to AC/DC in Buffalo for the end of March. I've been pinching a few pennies for the road trip. It's not cheap staying young. I miss the days of the local stamp shop. I had a great relationship with the owner. He retired and sold his stock to a west coast dealer. Not two years later he died.My closest supply for mounts is a we buy gold store, not exactly conductive to talking stamps.

Well I am pleased to report I had a great chat with the lovely "hs2oca" (try saying that five times fast) at the Stamp Show this morning. It's rare for me to mix online and offline and it was well worth it. The bourse was humming too, with collectors, kids, parents and even a newspaper reporter. The Third Golden Age of stamp collecting is taking off before our eyes. Mark

It was nice to meet you too Mark. I noticed the reporters with the big camera going around behind us. I enjoyed my time with Les and "Big Al". Les knows how to work a table. Next year I'm going to have to visit the gentleman at the topical stamp table. The canteen cinnamon buns were great! Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I met an elderly gentleman while waiting for my Hubby to pick me up and the gentleman was surprised he was able to buy a $1500 stamp for $100 "just because of a little crease". I must admit, I was surprised by how much off CV some of the higher value stamps were going. Big Al showed me some that were less than 50% of CV. Next year I'm going with a bigger want list...
