Following on threads for 2014 and 2015, here is a chance to talk about your plans for 2016. Last year I wrote that I was intended to start a collection of postal history of Oregon, and I did get some nice covers and postcards. I also found that, unfortunately, I was really interested in just about everything, so was not very strategic in my collecting. Unless "get more stamps" can be counted as a strategy. At the time Rod asked me how I was going to manage my collection. And now that the year has gone by, I guess the answer is: not very well. It is still largely just sitting loose in boxes. I need to think about organizational methods that will work for me. One thing I did not do very well at all last year was scanning my small collection, and posting here. For various reasons, I didn't end up with a lot of time last year to sit down and scan things. So my main intention is to do much more scanning this year, as I really like to be able to contribute to the forum, even if it is in a small way. Apart from that, my plan for this year is to increase my small collection of motel postcards and Oregon postal history. And apart from that, just... get more stamps. ;-) How about the rest of you?

I borderline followed my last year's plan.I managed to fill a couple empty holes and concentrated some effort on Newfoundland, which is almost complete within reason. My plans for this year is to now catch up on new issues from Canada, fill at least one more hole in my missing numbers and catch up on mounting all the stuff I've just stuck into the page protectors where they belong. I hope to start another study this year mainly on Edward VII issues and possibly the Mountie #223.If time permits I would love to move all the war tax, bill stamps, etc. into my collection at proper timeline. I also must at some point get back to remounting my small queens ,they are out of hand and cry every time I pass them by. I would like to find some time to get back at my other collections .I need to further improve my storage capacities for mounts, albums and reference materials.(most likely a few days in the wood shop) I plan on presenting more of the Funky Frog collection maybe by this time next year we can be into album five or six?? I also want to find more things to share with my friends here.I'm always looking for the great deals so I have things to give away. Maybe this will be the year I get to meet some of you in person, either at stamp shows or in my woods.

My Numero uno hope is to go to more stamp shows and meet more of my internet friends.
Second - organize the USA I'm keeping and sell or trade the rest. That will clear out a ton of clutter!

Mick For your consideration. This works, works well, and keeps all your stamps at your fingertips. Cost circa $40 + boxes of envelopes @ $5 There exists, these Chinese type "stack of drawers" at red Dot Stores. They come 4 or 5 drawers high, light as a feather. Choose a set where the drawers come out and are removable, some remain locked in. Buy a box of white envelopes $4.95, that gives you 100 countries to start. Write the name boldly at the top of 1 envelope, and place alphabetically in the drawer. It remains neat, takes little space, when one envelope of say US, becomes full, just add another. When you work on your stamps, remove the drawer of choice, select the envelope of choice and begin mounting. It's foolproof. No more cluttered desks, stamps everywhere, all mixed up.

That sounds like a good option, Rod. I think that I will implement something like that very soon.

I managed to complete my 2015 plan but my 2014 plan is still a work in progress. I've made it up to Togo so there is a light at the end of the tunnel...with luck, I'll be finished with the cataloging part by year's end!

These days I spend most of my time expanding my website stampforgeries.com rather than expanding my collection. Oh well.. For 2016, I will break the 200 countries / 6000 images barrier. I will add more than 1000 images covering the German States alone. For the German States, I have access to virtually all old books ever written about their forgeries. Thus, this will render the old material 'obsolete' as old mistankes are corrected / new high resolution images are made available to the public. My main objective for this year is recruiting help of more renowned experts to take the content to the next level. I'm very excited by this (has already begun). For a sneak peak, check out: Lombardy & VenetiaTibet

After taking a break for other things for the past year or so, this year my plan is to pickup working on organizing my worldwide collection. I'll be starting with the "B" countries, which is where I left off.
Other goal is to get my scanner working again. It looks like upgrading to Windows 10 might have done it in!

So happy to see you back, Jen! I've taken breaks like that myself, and when I return to my stamps I wonder how I managed to stay away for so long. There's something so satisfying about being able to sort and organize and bring order to one tiny little corner of my world, don't you agree?

Thanks for the warm welcome back everyone!
rod222 - I don't have too many 'B' countries left. Nearly finished with Brazil, then next are the British this and that territories, Brunei, and Bulgaria. Then on to the C's. But I'm also thinking of changing it up and selecting random countries instead of going alphabetically. Otherwise I may never work on any country past G at the rate I'm going.
philatelia - I agree. When I get back into stamps I also always wonder why I stopped. It is very relaxing. It takes me much longer now that I have a PC sitting on my stamp desk. I end up looking up each stamp subject on line and usually spend more time reading about the country and its history than getting the stamps organized. But I enjoy the stamps much more now that it is so easy to find out information about them.
firstfrog - Research online about your scanner and Windows 10 before you switch. Wish I had done that and I wouldn't have upgraded yet, given the posts I've found online of people having trouble. I have an Espon all-in-one 835 and still haven't got it working with the Epson program. I did get it working using the Microsoft Fax and Scan program, but it is only going up to 300 dpi.

Jen -- Epson has a driver on its site that it says works with Windows 10: "Drivers and Utilities Combo Package 10/18/12 114.6 MB epson14818.exe Download Description: This file contains everything you need to use your Epson Artisan 835 wirelessly or wired. "This combo package consists of the following items: "Printer Driver v6.72 Scanner Driver v3.772 Status Monitor 3 Event Manager v2.40.01 Fax Utility v1.10 Network Installer "Compatible Systems: Windows 10 32-bit, Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 8.1 32-bit, Windows 8.1 64-bit, Windows 8 32-bit, Windows 8 64-bit" In case you don't know, a driver is a program. It allows Windows to access a piece of equipment, in this case a scanner. Download and install it in your computer. Epson should have instructions for that. It's good to see you back.

What I collect: USA to fill album holes/varieties. Older W/W Airmail

My plans are (in no particular order):
1. Mount my used USA stamps I have been accumulating for years 2007-2014. I have a 3 ring binder for years 2007-2010 and a 3 ring binder for years 2011-2014. I use a combination of free USA pages from Philosatelia and stampalbums.com, plus a few specialized or self-made pages. The pages are held in document protectors. I have a lot of the stamps mounted on these pages, but some are just loose and/or still on envelope corner. I would like to remove any stamps still on paper and mount them all using black background mounts. I'm missing some of the proper size mounts, so to accomplish this goal I'll need to get some more mounts.
2. Transfer my Great Britain trade stock from manila stock cards to vario pages so I can scan them to prep for trading.
3. I have a bunch of unsorted GB Machins that I need to catalog (by Adminware website criteria) and mate up with their proper glassine.
4. I have a bunch of USA duplicates that are in my albums that I need to remove from the albums and put in glassines in my dupes shoe boxes.
5. Post some pics of my stamps here.
6. Oh yeah, get an avatar.
That's it for starters....

I have that driver installed and even walked through the steps on the Epson site they have for when their scan program won't load with Win 10. Wish I could revert to my old Windows version but it has been over 30 days since upgrading to 10.

For that, I'd look to buy another scanner!

Jen, Have you tried disconnecting the scanner and removing all of the Epson software then reconnect the scanner and let Windows find the driver. I don't know if that will help but it may be worth a try. You can always reinstall the Epson software if that doesn't work.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried all that several times over. I did get the window image driver installed but that only gets me 300dpi out of windows fax & scan. So I ended up installing it to my work laptop running 7. So I'm all set for now.

OK, last comment about my scanner and I'll stop hijacking this thread about it. Thanks for the tip about VueScan, Ed. IT WORKS!! Happy dance. It is worth the $40.00 to me, I don't have room for another piece of equipment.

My goals for this year are actually being realized! I want to mount the collection of Europa. Getting it placed in homemade pages and giving them a home that can be proud of. I wanted to be done by mid-February but supplies had to be reordered. Note to self, when starting a project make sure necessary supplies are at hand! I've also organized Bahamas, Jamaica and working on Cuba. It will feel good to get that much done. Then to look around the stamp room and find something else to play with!

I have lots on the go stamp wise this year...
I'm wanting to get all my Canadian used stamps mounted on pages this year, and fill in some gaps. I'm up to 2013. So almost done. I am creating a want list to send to a stamp friend to see if she can fill in some of my gaps.
I am also wanting to collect more textile stamps. They seem to be difficult to come by.
I am researching Canadian Colorano covers and keeping an eye out for them at reduced prices. They fit two of my key collection areas: textiles and Canada.
I cancelled my Arpin approvals. Not happy with quality or price. Instead I've been using online sources (forums, etc.) to purchase quality stamps.
I'd like to fill in some used BoB in my Canada Lighthouse album.
I will be attending my first stamp show in over 20 years.
I'm also wanting to learn how to take better quality scans of my stamps for the purposes of selling off some of my collection online. But that might wait till next year...

Thanks. Finding a list of what to buy isn't a problem. I'm a member of the ATA and have their topical list for various textiles. However, as you so rightly put it, the ebay shopping prices are high. I don't have much luck locally with stamps. I think I'll take a want list into my local dealer and see what he can do...

Another hobby of mine is weaving and other fiber arts, so I love coming across textile related stamps. Please post up some of your examples if you get a chance. A thread of textiles on stamps would be a lot of fun. Your avatar looks like a tapestry. Did you make that?

Yes Jen. I did make it, and sold it. It's a form of traditional rug Hooking, Only I use wool and silk, and mix yarn, fabric, unspun fleece, mohair locks, etc. Anything for texture and colour!
I'm having a terrible time scanning decent photos of my stamps. I've actually kind of given up at this point. It doesn't help that my laptop is so slow and Photobucket doesn't like to cooperate when I try to upload them. I suspect the files are too big, but am not sure.

Hi Jean, When you scan a stamp, try to locate where the software dictates what format the image is saved in. It usually says soamething like "Save image as" and gives you a drop down list of image types. Save in *.jpg (or JPEG) format, that should give you a file about 250Kb with a scan of 600dpi those image should load effortlessly on your computer, and Photobucket. Hope that assists.
