Reading around, I realized that the title of this thread it's incorrect. I want to point this out to avoid confusion to future readers. Italy it has never been a socialist republic in history. Confusion arisis from the name Italian Social Republic (Repubblica Sociale Italiana), name where it is listed this part of italian philately.

Reading around, I realized that the title of this thread it's incorrect. ... Interesting. The thread's title mirrors the listing in the Scott catalog; I'm wondering how other catalogs (e.g., Gibbons) name the fascist entity.

The Yvert et Tellier Catalog, writes "République Sociale Italienne" (Italian Social Republic). I don't have Michel or SG for Italy. Personaly, I find Scott usseless for European stamps. I only use it for swapping with US collectors and for Steiner pages. But I don't like it at all. But in my 2013 Scott I read "Italian Social Republic", which is correct. Not "socialist republic".

cursus I know you do not like SCOTT - I bought the 2019 e-version (more varieties) and had before (still have) the 2009 version in 6 volumes. I do have most of the other Catalogs, some I cannot read. When I did the FRANCE classics, I decided to do it MAURY/Scott and you are right.....much more info in MAURY - I believe Scott aims the US market (and Canada too) Since I am bilingual, Y&T is great for me....and I might get lost in Michel - good Cat also All this to say that there is (for me) no Numero Uno Catalog but appreciate the Specialized ones - Walsh is an example for Newfoundland and Unitrade for Canada Be well and Thanks René

I fully agree with you René. While there's no number one, specialized catalogs are the best. Tough, I must confess, I use Scott for non-European countries, as my Yvert is B/W and I use Steiner pages. You get used to that!
