And then there is Australia...
My airmail collection is based on Sanabria, not Scott. Therefore you will see all of the stamps that were issued specifically for airmail postal rates, not just the ones found in the back of Scott catalog. Also, I embrace semi-official and private airmail issues as well.
My Australia is mounted in 7 pages. I am linking a PDF file here for your viewing pleasure. I thought it would be better than having you scroll through a lengthy posting.

Great pages, Terry. I'm particularly envious of the 1920 stamp commemorating the Ross/Smith flight.

Thanks, stoltzpup... I'm really hoping to find some of the PALS/Herald semi-officials that are missing from the last page. I don't see them come across the block that often.

Just picked up this First Day Cover of the first Australian Air Mail Stamp, Scott C1, ACSC 134y. The date of issue is listed as May 20, 1929, but there is one stamp known postmarked May 19th at Grafton, NSW. This cover is clearly marked "Ship Mail Room / 2:30 pm 20 May 29 / Melbourne". Now, the sender intended it to go by Air Mail via a method that I can't quite make out (help anyone?). But, apparently, it went via ship. The back is shown also, but there are no markings other than someone writing in, "Date of Issue". Any clue on whether it even got close to a plane?

Partime Hi Steve, Caveat : Aussie Airmail neophyte. Here is my guess, (You may not like it) The cover shows correct impost with the 3d additional for Air. The "Ship Mail Room" hammer, was mainly for sorting mail for transport via ship, but Airmail was included also. So OK thus far The Postmark ? I would suggest 2 things, the date shows actually May 29, not May 20 The year? The date slug is incorrect, 1929, is in error (It happens) it should be 1930 Ergo, I would suggest the cover pmk should read 29th May 1930 This, then would be perfect for "ANA" (Australian National Airways) inaugural flights Melbourne to Sydney on 1st June 1930 (Flights both ways) (Curiosity.. the code on the back of the cover? ?? FF First Flight code from an US catalogue? ) The Australian Air Mail Catalogue shows no flights 20th May 1929 Conclusion : Personal opinion, the cover indeed was flown. Cheers Ship mail room (Perth context) Australia Air Mail Catalogue, of the dates in question

As an aside the BCM/FF7S code on the back refers to a different flight

Partime Update Your cover is possibly "Philatelic"
Addressed to "Miss West, 121a Castlereagh Street Sydney" At that time in 1930 that address was the business of J H Smyth, Postage Stamp dealer.
Specifically........
"Interstate pioneer planes" Valuations 121a Castlereagh Street Sydney

I believe there is a strong likelihood that the postmark date is May 20, 1929 and that the cover did travel by air "via Hay and Cootramundra." The first aerial mail service between Melbourne and Hay was inaugurated on July 21, 1925. At Hay, the letter would have connected to the Adelaide-Sydney service which called at Mildura, Hay, Narrandera and Cootamundra.

Just woke up in the US and saw the various replies. Thanks so much everyone for the VERY detailed notes, maps, links, etc. I must say that I like tomiseksj response so much better than rod222 response, but both are possible. I still don't know why someone would add the "-BCM/FF7S" stamp on the back as it appears to have nothing at all to do with the cover.

This clip found on page 332 of the December 11, 1926 issue of Stamp Collecting leads me to believe that the mark was associated with some sort of expertizing service.
