1946 Steiner page 5 For the Flyspeckers. (Not sure where I mined this information, it is absent in Stanley Gibbons.) Known as "Sea Retouch" The die engraved for the vignette, was retouched in the sand hills and posts behind the Great Frigate Bird. They are darker in the retouch Sc#64 Die 1 Retouch

Here is a set of the 1912 Pandanus tree stamps I have - I suspect the cancels are forgeries.

Here is a set of the 1912 Pandanus tree stamps I have - I suspect the cancels are forgeries. The lettering / font does look a bit dodgy. There exists a double ring Pmk, yours appear not to have the scallops. Would they be favour cancels? FDC cancels perhaps. Michael Hamilton auctions.

Good eye on the fonts Rod. That was my thinking too. I posted that image from work, and I new I had a similar cancel on another stamp at home. Now at home I cannot find it . I will find it and post it .

The placement of the cancels indicates to me that the stamps were all part of blocks of four and one cancel applied in such a way that all 4 stamps in each block were canceled.

While I still cannot find my own example, I fount this in my digital archives. It is a similar cancel, in full form, from Niutao in the Ellice (now Tuvalu) Islands. Notice the narrow and crisp font. Niutao is spelt wrong, Nuitao, which is a known error.

Falschung, I am not sure what you mean by "broken letters" on the 1sh GEIC stamp. I cannot see anything different on your two stamps. Here is my 1sh. Any indication to what printing it is?

Falschung, I am not sure what you mean by "broken letters" on the 1sh GEIC stamp. I cannot see anything different on your two stamps. Here is my 1sh. Any indication to what printing it is? There were six printings of the 1/ value from Gilbert & Ellice Islands. The first four were perforated 13.5, the final two were perforated 12. So check the perfs first. Your stamp appears to be Perf 12, but you should check it. So that means it was either printed in 1951 or 1952. The lighter appearance of the Turquoise makes me thing it is the 1952 printing. You can check the stamps in my collection as a reference. The page with most of the 1/ values is shown below.
Here is a link to view the whole collection and download an Excel spreadsheet showing the various printings if you want one.
