I was aghast that I could not find this topic already in place. Why, we even have Coins on Stamps! But never fear, we have this great topical theme now. And to get it started, I'll post a few souvenir sheets featuring "Stamps on Stamps". Help me out and make this a LONG thread!

This has always been one of my favorite themes (the only way I can acquire some of the great classics). I didn't mean to imply that longer is better, rather that this is a very rich topic and one worthy of attention. And far from actually upset at the lack of a thread for "Stamps on Stamps," I was pleased to have the honor of creating it!

Several U.S. stamps on stamps have been posted but none of them have been on a U.S. stamp -- that needs to change. This 22c multicolored, perf. 11 stamp featuring the 1c ultramarine, perf. 12 Franklin (Scott 134; April 1870) was issued on May 25, 1985 in advance of the International Stamp Show that would be held in Chicago the following year (Ameripex 86). The stamp is Scott 2145.

Ras al-Khaima Can't find these in the Scott Catalog, so may not ever have been used postally? Humongous stamps! (out of mild curiosity, what's the largest stamp ever produced and how big was it?) These are 6 cm. x 4.5 cm.

Insofar as bobby1948 started this thread, I think it only fitting that a stamp from his recent Memorial Day giveaway appear here. Below is the 10 rupiah gold, dark blue & red orange, perf. 12.5 stamp depicting stamps of Netherlands Indies and Indonesia (Scott 642). The stamp was issued on April 1, 1964 to commemorate the centenary of postage stamps in Indonesia.

I am not a topical collector, but if I were to start a topical collection, I think that "stamps on stamps" would be the first topic. I really enjoy seeing examples of these regardless of the era of issue. As I was going through some "oldies but goodies" recently, I found this example, which I had not previously noticed as a "stamps on stamps" issue. It is Cuba Scott #393 issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary (1843-1943) of the first postage stamps issued by Brazil, which also happen to be the first stamps issued in the Americas, too. Although it is simple in design and color, I really like this classic example of "stamps on stamps".

1995 Palestinian Authority set depicting British Mandate Palestine stamps. This set went against signed agreements between Israel and the PA because it showed Palestine stamps [albeit old] valued in Mils. Rather than overprint the stamps as in earlier issues, they were withdrawn.

I am showing this as an example of the darker side of 'Stamp on Stamp'. This sheet exists in 4 other colours and the 5 'Penny Black' reproductions can often be found offered as 'Proofs', 'Rainbow Trials', 'Colour trials' and worse. Prices as high as $120 for each colour have been seen by me and I have had words with a couple of top GB dealers and Kelleher auctions about selling such things. They all withdrew them but they can still be found on online auctions at high prices. In reality, they are worthless. The sheets though are beautiful and would proudly adorn any page of a 'Stamp on Stamp' collection !

Israel Miniature Sheet from 1991 commemorating the opening of the new Postal Museum [Yours truly was there on this opening day !]. It is a one-stamp sheet and the stamp shows older issues of Israel, Palestine and the Ottoman Empire. It has even more going for it by way of the stamps shown on the historical covers at the lower part of the sheet !
